New TJIRC 2.5m Wazzup build

Got to maiden the Wazzup at the Cape Blanco fly event! fLew great! I need to do some fine tuning, but she is a good flyer! I love 2.5m planes, I think they are the perfect size :)

Rad, dude. I want to make it out there. Maybe at next year's event we can get a contingent of folks who want to crash it.

You can’t crash it ifn y’all are invited :D
Had a great time this year, Jeremy, posted a few shots of your Wazzup on the RCG Cape Blanco thread.
And THANKS to Wayne for your continued support of the event!

You went to Blanco!? You dog!
Yup, just for 2 days though. I got to see Bruce, Mehrdad, John Cayrol, Jeff Salem, Tom, Mike R., Chris Brose and Jacob. I met Lee and his wife. Ian and Phil as well, plus lots of others! Great time and a lot of great pilots! The DS spot is fantastic., much larger area on the backside then I thought and much futher down than I though. :) So much fun. I gotta figure out how to go next year and stay at least a day or two longer.

Okay... Diceman, if you want to get some momentum going for next year's Cape Blanco like we had for the Camp 'n Fly with signups, campsite reservations, that kind of stuff, I'm definitely in. I heard it's awesome there, and if it's 1/2 as fun as the Camp 'n Fly then that's definitely good enough for me. Maybe later in the year we can get a sticky post about it and see who we could round up. There's gotta be at least a few of us who would want to join.

Next year Cape Blanco Slopefest dates are July 19th - 27th. Dinner and Raffle will be the 26th. You can start booking campsites 6 months prior to your arrival day and how many days you’ll be staying. A much better improvement then a few years ago when you had to wait until 6 months from the -last- date and how many days you wanted to stay prior. That resulted in getting chopped up reservations and the need to move campsites mid stay :(

Congrats with the maiden!!!
Did you DS the WazzUp….?

Thank you! No not yet. I kind of got it together quick and Mehrdad was a HUGE help to me with the programming the night before I maidened it. So there is definately more I need to do to the plane before I hit the back side. I might try it lightly at the Slot this Sunday if wind is in the right direction. :) But I never did get the rudder working very well so I left it unhooked to the servo and taped it up. The hinge line on the Wazzup is not vertical and at an angle so it really needs a ball joint vs a horn in the rudder. I hooked up mine with a clevis in the provided horn I placed in the rudder and it has a big movment side to side when it acuates causing the linkage to rub pretty good on the inside of the fuse and also the clevis gets stuck on the outside cover. I started by grinding away to beautiful outside cover to get more movement room, but did not help much. I really need to take off the clevis and now remove the horn to put in a ball joint in its place and try that or even just a wire with a 90 degree bend? Ill have to see.
what did you guys use to hook up the rudder? Pics? Thanks!

I sanded one side of the clevis, and the cover in the fuse about 45° (also sanded the inside of the cover)
My buddy used a 90° bend on the push rod
(Note: this is the prototype, so there is no skid under the rudder)

Thanks for the photos. But I did pretty much that except sanding the clevis, but I cut back the cover a lot and the pushrod rubs the inside of the tail and puts backpressure on the movement which makes it stick when moving. I tried sanding the inside of the tail, but ran out of time before I had to pack and leave for the fly event. I think Ill need to use a 90 degree bend? Once I get time Ill have to work on it some more.

Ok, I got a chance to DS my WazzUp and it did very well. It was not great wind conditions, but enough to get her to 130mph. Wings seem to be holding up well, no bending as far as my friend and I could tell. I know it is not made for DS, but I tend to DS all my planes. LOL (I think most guys that DS do). Good time at the Slot yesterday, great weather and a pretty decent day. :)

Very nice to hear Diceman, a WazzUp on the Dark Side.
You are correct it’s not a 100% DS plane, but the design is a fast allround plane, so it should do DS (airframe is calculated to reach 400kmh / 250mph)

First week of september we go flying in the French Alps. I hope to visit the Dark Side with the WazzUp (if I am not to nervous)

(Ps. I would love to see some
Video of the WazzUp doing DS 😬)

Wow! 250mph?1? So with full ballast? I just got my ballast so next time it is a really windy day........ we shall see. LOL. At our site, I cannot not even get my D80 to 250mph, I got it to 233mph, and that was on a very windy day. But maybe someone a bit better at DS than me could I am sure. LOL.
Ill try for video next time. my friend had the gun so he could not shoot any video. Ill have to strap something to my head. Hahaha.

Looks like not so good wind this coming weekend, so will not be flying for a while.

Oh! I bet DS is AMAZING in the Alps!! Holy cow! Looks like it would be so smotth there on the backside! Make sure to post video of that!

Jeremy - Tell you what, if you manage to break that plane in the air I'll get you a replacement at a super good price. I'd like to see someone really put this to the test. Want to take it to Weldon and let Bruce abuse it for a bit?

That sounds nice!
When you do.., there is a must for a video.

Btw the 250mph is only calculated.
I am very curious if the plane can reach it

So I DS’d the Wazzup again yesterday, winds were ok, bit not in the optimal direction, did some laps and probably only in the 120 mph range, but it was choppy on the backside. After attempting it several times, the turbulence on the backside started making the wings wobble. It almost looked like they were flapping? I did not have any ballast in the wings. I have seen this “wobble” in another plane I had, the carbon big bird. Although I did not get this plane to DS and do not expect it to, it does well for lighter/heavier winds and is a bunch of fun.
Hopefully you have much more luck in the Alps and have a smoother backside. :)
