OK Model (Pilot) Mucho Mint build

Ok. You are right the right panel has a little less dihedral than the left panel but I’m not gonna worry about. Next up: join the wing.

I joined the wing panels today. So far I’m liking how it’s coming out. Next up for the wing is to add a little light weight glass to the joints for triple extra peace of mind. But before that I think I’ll install the Bowden tubes and figure out the pushrods. I’ll also finish shaping the tail feathers. I’ll have to start thinking about covering soon.

This morning I pulled the wing off the bench and checked it with the calibrated eye ball , and it looks pretty straight. So now that the wing is assembled, I had to do a dry assembly. She looks good. Compared to the Mint 2 she’s substantially bigger. This will help the Reynolds numbers.

Thanks Wayne. It’s getting me pumped to start that Re-Start RES glider I got from you a few years back.

My DJAerotec chrysalis is getting a bit long in the tooth. Let us know when you start this. I’ll join in with a parallel build of an REStF5.

No building today but I took these pics comparing the wing spans of the 2 models.

Finally got a little more work done on the Mucho Mint. Last night I found the 0.50 oz fiberglass cloth Konrad sent me a while back so I added some around the D tube and trailing edge on the outter joints. The main joint at the center of the wing has a ply wood joiner so I wasn’t too concerned about it. I’m thinking of adding a hook to this and use a small upstart so the glass on the Dtube will be some mental comfort.

I also installed the pushrod tubes. And the ply supports for the wing hold down screws.

Need to start getting ready for covering soon.

Well I got the air frame covered. I need to add a few details like a canopy outline and some other trim but it looks good. The white covering is So-lite. I found just enough to cover the tail feathers and rear part of the fuse. The red is Parklite from ultra coat. When I put the red on the fuselage with the angle line my first thought was US Coast Guard colors. Hmm a search and Rescue glider might not be the best idea.

I’m starting a beta build for the Trix next so I’m pushing to get this glider to test flight stage this weekend.

More soon.

Well just before the year ended I finished up this glider. Her current AUW is 97grams. Today I took her to the park. Calibrated eye ball for CG looks good. I had 20 minutes of throwing her around the park. Needed a little up trim but she flies great. I can’t wait to get her on to Kite Hill or out at Fairview. My little local park has lots of trees that break up the thermals. It’s ok for test glides but it’s not a good place to measure real performance.

The silver for the canopy is my wife’s Crickcut vinyl. It doesn’t like going around the edge so I’ll replace it with covering material.

Right now I’m super happy.

Nice job Hank, it's a cutie! Try a little heat on the vinyl to go around corners.
