New TJIRC 2.5m Wazzup build

Just received my Wazzup! Packaged fantastic as always from Aloft!
First impressions and images for you all.
Beautiful looking plane! Has a real stout rectangle carbon spar. A real plus for me. I do not like steel rods (they bend too easy).
Nice color design. Has curved up wing tips. I like the look, but a bit weary if it will cause tip stalls? Only time will tell once I get it flying. The last plane I had with curved wingtips (Opus) tip stalled bad if you slowed down too much.
The fuse is a triangle type shape, tried to get that in the pictures.
Wings feel nice and stout as I like, same goes for the stab. Has a bell crank with easy access which I assume could be removed and install the elevator servo in the vertical fin if you know how to build decently. I’ll probably just put the elevator in the front and see how she does first.
Excited to get this plane flying. Might be a while as we are getting close to Christmas and got lots to do. :)
I’ll put in updates as I go. Feel free to add to this build if you get one!
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Nice to see you received your WazzUp!!
I am one of the design team that designed the WazzUp.
During the designing we had the same worries of a potential tip-stall during high speed corners, but after excessive testing with the prototypes (high speed and tight corners) there are no high speed tip-stalls!
Also with low airspeed she reacts good on your inputs, but the WazzUp likes the fast-lane.

Here are some more possible colours (the batch I will receive in a couple of weeks)

I don't know if I had shared my feedback on these models yet or not. I really was not sure what they were going to be when I ordered them, but I have learned to Trust the TJI lineup. Jerry was good enough to slip 2 of them into our last shipment and upon arrival I was excited to check this plane out. I'm a sucker for a forward swept wing.

I first looked at the wing and was impressed as I thought it might have a light layup, but it has a pretty serious layup. She feels substantial and looks really nice. Good sized flaps and ailerons. Then jumped over to the fuselage. I have to admit I have not seen a fuselage like this one before, but I really like it. It feel at home in your hand and is a great compromise for both slope glider or electric glider. If has room for a big battery and motor without seeming big. A nice mix for both applications. But that flat bottom really feels good in your hand. Should make her a joy to throw out into the air.

The pushrods are pre installed for the rudder and elevator. Just need to plug in the elevator into the all carbon bell crank.

Talking with Eric, I'm excited. His crew has a great focus and this is their baby. Eric has also shared his next project with me, and it is something I had hoped TJI would offer. Looking forward to that one coming to life, but it is hush hush for now. :)

Thanks Wayne,
The initial design features where a fast allround glider for experienced pilots, with very good energy retention.
The appearance was also very important to me, it needed to be something different than “normal”. (I am also a sucker for forward swept wings).
But also the tail, the elevator is smaller than normal but very effective (less drag).
And the triangular fuse is a very nice feature what I always wanted to try out (the nosecone is stil round, so a 32mm spinner will fit perfectly).
Some prototype pic’s in France (mid september 2023)

The blue one is the electric version and the orange is the glider version.

@Lyck, sadly no, I have been too busy with the holidays and work to even start on it. :( I need to though. Thank you for checking in. Your inquary just got me thinking what I need to get started and hope to soon! :)

Awesome! How was it! I did order wing servos. Have not ordered the other servos yet, need to figure out which ones I want. I usually go high quality strong fast servos. especially for the elevator.

I'll make you a deal on some FrSky servos if you are interested. I'd like more folks to try them. The newest offerings are all outstanding in quality.

FrSky Xact HV5301 should do the trick. Plenty of torque and good speed.

I'll need to check if they have some other offerings in this size. I have had a hard time keeping up with their stupid part numbers not making any sense. (Why do so many servo companies do that?)

Was nice off course 😬 but I didn’t add the ballast i made. When i was back home i felt a bit stupid not adding the ballast and try it out. But there will be more opportunities.
The wind was good but not hooning like it was when I flew it in France this summer.

For the servo’s in the fuselage, there is enough space (is it going the be a glider or E? ) in the fuselage.

Cheers,
Lyckele

So my plane will be pure glider. Going to definitely use a much stronger, bigger servo. I do ten to DS my ships. LOL. So I usually put a overkill elevator servo in for sure.

Might as well, I suspect you will need to nose weight and you have plenty of space in there.
Yup, exactly. I have been saying it for years and years. I also usualy put an extra layup of cloth in the noise for more strength. I have been doing that for 10+ years. You always have to add weight in the noise, so why not use that weight as strength/support/power? I can see if you are setting up a powered glider that you might have to use smaller servo's, that I can see. But pure glider? Yes, the weight is not all the way up in the nose tip, but you gain a lot more. :) Not to mention us DS guys like strength/weight. LOL
