Camp n Fly 2022!!!

I actually knew Richard Odell before he died. It would be nice to build one of his models. How much you want for the RO-8 kit? My in laws live in Tehachapi so can arrange pick up.

Hank

I saw a fair price of $100 on the kit box. I was thinking about it but I had no space left in my car. I was hoping to get rid of some of the kits I brought to make space.

So glad everyone (and myself) had a fantastic time! Thank you all for making this event possible!!! This was a fantastic turn out! Some people were thinking the winds were going to be light all weekend and decided not to come. But the wind gods turned it up! I have never seen 32mph and gusting to 38mph! That was on Thursday, but Saturday at about 3pm, it was again 30mph! So much fun! It just goes to show you that when you come to this event, make sure to bring super light fliers all the way to super heavy.

Even if we did not have the big winds, most of this event is about meeting new people, talking about our favorite hobby, maybe learning something we did not know and enjoy being surrounded by all sorts of new, old and innovative creations!!
Thank you to Wayne and the Aloft Hobbies crew for always helping out at this event and taking the time to close up shop just for this weekend!
Make sure to show them love and please to make sure to check out alofthobbies.com first when needing some hobby gear so we can support our local hobby shop! They are fantastic and a pleasure to order from! www.alofthobbies.com

This was an AWESOME event. (As always) I was so busy with helping out with whatever was needed and chatting that i did not get a lot of flight time. (But well worth it in my opinion) Even worse, I did not get any video and VERY few pictures.
It was great to meet so many new friends and to see some old ones.
Lots of carnage, which is not great but adds top the experience, and a few lost planes.
I would like to thank everyone who took the time to camp or just to stop by. It could not happen without a great community.

Time for a picture dump?

Natural e made this very nice plane for "Jargon"

"Jargon" used it to slice the wing tip off Nate's Birchy on the maiden flight. :(

How not to load up your planes for travel!

Wednesday flying was more relaxed.. Here is the Aloft crew getting some stick time. Crowded skies are coming!

Rafael drove out a couple of days to join in on the fun.

Our old friend Mo (left side) drove out from Texas and surprised us. Mo was a regular before moving from the local area to far out Texas. Was great to hang with him and fly with him!! On the right is Jeremy, the good fellow that puts this trip together. So many thanks to Jeremy for all of the leg work to keep this event growing each year! Nothing comes close to the community he has helped to build here. Right place, right time and right pilots all makes this event really special.

I forget, but think Mo is showing off the carnage that occured to one of my planes. LOL

Rafael brought some "slope trash" in the form of some sort of free flight or electric conversion jet thing complete with rotating radar. It was a sitting target for the wings. Somehow this slope trash survived to die another day.

Always get a great sunset at this event. Flying into the dark was pretty common most evenings.

Everything's better with flutter! If you look close you can see the verticals are fluttering in the wind making a wonderful noise. This silly plane was fun to fly with very flexible verticals.

Chris on the left and Victor in the chair are more of the Aloft Crew. Victor's buddy Christian on the right had never flown prior to this event, we got him some stick time. :)

3D printed planes aren't meant to last.. Fly them hard and have fun. Exactly what I did with this Roughgen. Tossed it out in 25 to 30 mph winds with a load of lead on the top and had a great time ripping around. Quickest 3D printed plane I have seen, and rolled like a drill bit. Passed it off to Nigel and told him I didn't care if it came back, so he had a good time with her. Sadly the fun ended too soon when she had a massive midair with a carbon speeder. Both planes went down, but they made an insane sound that I think people heard back in the campground. @Chris has a funny story about searching for parts after the wreck.. I'll let him tell it.

If you look really carefully you might see Nigel down on the beach trying to spot the missing carbon fuselage while a team of us searched the hillside.

Nigel getting ready to maiden his beautifully restored Alpina. No flaps or spoilers on this one.. Landing will be tricky.

That is about all of the photos I got.

Anyhow have some pictures of my Seagull flying around? I'd like to share some with the designer of the plane.

I'm happy to report that I did a lot more flying this year than I have in past years, probably why I didn't take too many pictures. Such a good time. This event totally recharges my mentel energies for the coming months. I think I'm smiling the entire time I am there.

If you are reading this and have not attended this event, please plan to attend next year. We try to hit around the first weekend of May each year.

I've been to a few power events but nothing compares to a good slope event! Good wind, varied flying, and lots of fun people to talk to. Thursday and Saturday were amazing days, light in the morning then built to crazy winds in the afternoon, then back to calmer in the evenings. Made for a fun mix of planes up throughout the day and different types of flying. On the same day the winds reached nearly 40mph a DLG landed down on the beach.

I loved the comment from Kelly that came from Hawaii. He had never attended a slope event before, so a lot of new things for him. He shared with me that he was blown away how cool everyone was when an accident did occur. No hard feelings, sometimes a good laugh and help the other pilot recover their plane. You will not find that at a power field.
