Had a few people ask me about my Pug twisty. Here is the link to the kit:

Some of you may remember some slope trash we brought to Sunset last year, a GeeBee. The thing pretty much refused to fly. It was a free electric foam plane that was dropped off at our shop. We then took it to Sunset thinking it might be fun. The thing had been crashed and poorly repaired and pretty much refused to fly more then a couple of passes. Bruce for some reason took a shine to the plane and told me he could get it flying and would get some DS speeds out of it. OK, challenge is accepted and gave him the junker, of ah, I mean GeeBee. I figured it saved me a trip to the trash can.

Well here you go:

Now that's just crazy...but isn't it an absolute joy to see people getting so much FUN out of something like this?

I mean, take the most unlikely, foamie, broken, ex-power, super un-aerodynamic (you would think) model - that even shouldn't fly that well, if at all on the slope - and make it do respectable DS and lovely sharp aerobatics?
Its laughable! Literally! In fact, dare I say it...its fun!

I for one got a real boost just from watching that fun-filled video (twice); made my entire day in fact.

Now compare that to the steely-eyed, haemorrhaging wallet, super focussed, SERIOUSLY Serious attempts to wring the last Mph out of a dedicated DS model that normally you can't even see on video as its going too fast? Is that really fun? For some it is, I guess, but me?

I like the good old grinning, giggling, silly stuff like this. Of course the fact that Bruce is obviously a very accomplished pilot, and could probably fly a refrigerator with a broken ice box and make it look good is a big help, but overall? Its just Firetrucking OUTSTANDING FUN!

So I ask myself: am I wrong to spend so many hours calculating, drawing, developing and refining my designs to do as many jobs as possible, as well as possible? No I don't think so. Why? Because I want to make models that you CAN do silly things with, and that CAN fly in a howling gale and can fly in the whispy lift at the end of the day, but most of all, models that you can have fun with - your way.

Cheers, and thanks again for the video.

Doc.

Congrats on the success sloping the GeeBee !
The resultant fun and joy produced is the result of proper CG, wing loading (ballast) , pilot talent and wind conditions.

Sorry for the confusion.. I posted in the wrong place.. Los Banos.

Weldon - We should set up a date with Bruce. :)

Man that’s incredible stick work for that plane

Bruce is a very gifted pilot. I'd say most all DS pilots that have gone over 300mph are all gifted pilots. Bruce has gone over 500, and he does not have big money to invest in chasing that speed.
