Los Banos - October 14-15 2023

The Mini Vision is a SWEET plane and lends itself really well to that style. She is very light and well built model. Grab one if you ever get the chance.

Phil doing some magic. :)

Here is the information for getting a special permit to camp on top. Contact Brandy to get the application for the permit. It's $25.

Spoke with Los Banos and I'm set for the South Rim overnight stay on Friday and Saturday. The regular camping fees, that I paid, cover the stay. No extra permit/fee for me. If someone else is planning to stay overnight you will have to call the number above and get the details from them direct, including the Gate lock combination. Otherwise you will not be able to get into the campground at the main gate.

what time do you think us hotel people should head over?

She mentioned that someone is at the kiosk at 6am (better bring them coffee!) There is a locked gate to get into the park that is closed all night. Only people that stay at the campground have that lock combo. So if the gate is opened, the Kiosk is opened as well. Everyone needs to go by the kiosk in the am to pay the day use fees. The second gate to South Rim will be opened as well.

If it's windy get there early, you never know when the ON/OFF wind switch will work!

I’ll be there this Sun. Sep. 17th
Test gliding a Carbon Falcon and a fresh 3D printed Seagull along with the usual combat wing with on board camera.

You might get lucky and get around 12mph, westerly winds in the late afternoon and only low 80's for air temps..

Appaerently, one can check out a park pass at a public library and get in for free!
I am looking foeward to October's meet up. It was so fun last year. I drove up to Los Banos 2x this year. Once in early spring and everyting was so green, it was great.

I booked a room at Santa Nella Mission de Oro. It is a very nice hotel and is priced lower than expected for such a nice place.
Now I pray to the wind gods for nice steady breezes.

I was looking at pics of that hotel, looks really nice. Then I saw they had a pool table... Uh oh. Might be the amenity that seals that deal.

Edit: I actually just booked a La Quinta room. It's not as nice but it's a bit closer.
