Sunset State Beach Camp & Fly May 6-7th 2023!!!!!!

You want the newest goggles as those ones you linked are the older models that will go out of support in a bit. These are the new models

and you want an 03 air unit like this:

yeah its pretty expensive right now to get into dji hd.

@Chris came up with a fun idea this morning.

For next year at Sunset we will do a little build challenge. And the participants will vote for a winner and they will win something nice from Aloft. As we discussed this idea, it developed into what the build might be, and started to think about a dedicated design and we started calling this the "Sunset Special". Current thought is a rather simple EPP airframe, something that can take the Sunset abuse, but also offers good flying experience. Small enough to be cheap, durable and portable.

What do you all think? Fun way to build some community in the months before the event? Group build fun.

Weird cause i just watched this video this morning and was thinking was have enough people building things that we should do some type of themed build. It was so fun that one year we all did hawkies.

It was the fun that we all had with the Hawkies that made me think that it would be fun to do a community Sunset Special" sort of thing.
Wayne came up with the build competition and prize part of it LOL.
Ill have to check out that vid.

A (very) long time ago we did that at my old club in the UK.
The idea was to make a model that would fit inside an ordinary shoe box. Obviously the wings had to be detachable and the largest span you could have was 24" - plus the fuselage if that was separate.

I suppose if you made a blended wing fuse it could go to 30" or so actually, but still fit inside that shoe box.

Huge fun. The guy that won it also made a cardboard tube to put in a bottle rocket - lit in flight - by a broken light bulb element - surprisingly it worked very well.

Lemme know, I'm in.

I think some kind of theme for what it looks like would be fun. Like tropical birds or Star wars. Leave the physical shape to whatever you want. That way you could just paint something you had if you are not into scratch building.

Honestly, after seeing that video above with the flying BBQ, I'm totally open to a different suggestion.

I love the weird stuff. How about a contest to build and test fly (at the event, no pre-flying) what ever odd creation you can come up with? Something like the flying surfboard! Think Jarron has wanted to fly an inflatable boat for a while now. This could be an additional challenge, we could still do a group build if folks want.

Just an idea..
