Camp N Fly 2020! May 2-3!!

If you have not heard yet or have seen the posts on RCgroups/Facebook, this years' event will be one of the best ones yet! Come join us for a weekend of camping and flying the slope at Sunset State Beach in Watsonville, CA!! We had 43 pilots and some of their families out with us last year for a fabulous fun flying event! Not to mention the fantastic Saturday night potluck BBQ which is always a big hit with everyone. This year we will be adding in some racing poles to fly around (just for an hour or so) so people can try out their skills. We can even try out the ever popular "kick the can" where we try to knock off the aluminum can from the railing (best with foam planes of course). Plus do not be shy to bring out the composites, there is lots of airspace to fly in!
See you there!

What is to make this year's event better than last year's, the addition of poles?

Will there be an allotted time slot just for higher dollar ships. There has been some concerns that some fliers of the low dollar, low emotional investment models don't fly to avoid contact. Not saying this is true, it just often looks to be the case.

All the best,
Konrad

That is the great thing about Sunset, lots of slope to fly from, lots of folks to chat with and lots of great planes to check out. If you have something you want to protect, just fly in a different part of the sky.

A great time for sure.

Potluck feed on Saturday again?

What is to make this year's event better than last year's, the addition of poles?

For one we have lots of people actually getting campsites this year, we have a lot of the campsites in the 1-37 slots, most of which are all close to the flying area, this will make more room for people who come up just for the day to park. So hopefully all the people who have campsites will leave there vehicle at the campsite. This will make it better for more people to attend! :)

Second, I heard that James Hammond might be coming back again for the event and again bringing some nice newly designed ships for us all to enjoy.

Third, with more attendees, brings more comradery and more food for the potluck BBQ on Saturday night! :D

So I am sorry if this is not enough, but this is not a Circus or Carnival that we come up with new rides for every year to make it better, in this event people make it better. the more the better the event becomes! :)

I do not know if you witnessed it last year, but I flew my Pitbull when lots of people were flying their foamies as well as Miguel flew his Swift. So there is plenty of room to fly as long as there is wind to enjoy it. So it is easy enough to fly the moldies for sure anytime you like and we do not need to set a scheduled time to do so. Most people respect the composites (or just want to watch instead of fly) and will either land the foam to give us a chance to have the sky or sometimes not, either way it is still fun. :)

I thought last year was great. It will be very difficult to top !

With the park service's war on bots this is a good thing, to see more actual fliers having spots.

Last year I recall Mo maidening a 3.2 meter moldie. I also maidened a 2.4 meter moldie. So we do fly moldies. I just stayed away from the best lift as that is where so many of the foamies lurk. Not that that's a problem other than many didn't try to follow a flight pattern. This makes it difficult to predict where they may be at any one time to avoid them. I know it isn't fair to label these as foamies but rather we (I) should label the problem as flight pattern development and adherence.

All the best,
Konrad

Last year was the best! Exactly what a slope gathering should be. Fun and relaxed. We should have another new 3 meter to show off at the event as well as the Hammond planes, and maybe sneak in a few others.

I love this event so much I am really thinking we should do it twice a year. Maybe 6 months apart??

I think we will be doing that one every other year. We skipped it this year as some people wanted to schedule it before school started back up, and others wanted to do it after. Why does that matter? Crowds. I don't think a campsite can be found while the kids are out of school. Due to snow concerns there, the event has to be late in the summer to give time for the snow drifts to melt.

What? Me?

YES WE WILL!

In conjunction with Aloft Hobbies, and the International Diceman Unlimited, LTD Conglomerates we (Julia and I) will be attending with lots of new stuff for all to play with.

Cheers,

Doc.

It looks like this year is turning out to be a huge turn out! We got so many more campsites this year then we ever have! The potluck BBQ on Saturday night at campsite #2 will be fantastic, make sure not to miss it!

Yes indeed!

I recently picked up a vintage Jaguar and Hobie Hawk I hope to fly, and then maybe sell in the swap meet. I always wanted a Jaguar when I was a kid, will be neat to fly one.

Ok guys, anyone who would like a t-shirt or hoddie for this years Camp N Fly event at Sunset State Beach please post up size and what you would like in the Sunset Camp N Fly thread located here below. Event will be held on the first weekend in May. Come out to hang out, fly or both! You can even surf fish in the morning/evening. :)This is a great time with great friends.

Looks like James Hammod (plane designer of popular gliders like the Sunbird, Typhoon, Aresti, Minivec, Dorado, Vector, and so many more) will be attending again coming all the way from Tawain, and I even heard the great Bruce Tebo (DS master) might be coming out as well!

Please sign up for shirts/hoodies in this thread below.

Thank you
Jeremy

I would post a request for a spot in the RCgroups Camp N Fly thread. There are a lot more people that refer to that one as the main one to look at. See above for the link! :)

Yeah, sound slike most with campsites are happy to share with those that need some space. Parking will be an issue, you may have to park outside the campground.
