Mini Q

Yes, with supplied bulged servo covers.
The A10 is a much better fit and can use cleaner flat servo covers.

thanks conrad, I'd probalby switch too a kst before the A10, I was wondering about using the $24 servos, as on option, I actually like those 125WV an 127WV servos.

I think for the money savings, you will probably never notice the difference in performance with the bumped covers... I know... I really said that!

And along those lines I've been calling for top drive bottom hinged control surfaces, more for durability than "performance". But in my book durability is a performance matrix!

Here is my Mini-Q FPV. Thanks for the info on here, it helped me to make the maiden go well! It is a little ripper! ... like an angry wasp!
No flight controller or GPS in this build
DJI / Caddix HD camera and Vtx
20a Little Bee ESC
3A Amazon BEC
EZUHF with dipole antenna in the fin
T-motor F80 1900kv
4s1p LG-HG2 cells
5.25x6.25 APC prop
Home made servo covers, wet lay carbon vacuumed over a 3d printed pattern
3D printed camera holder
3D printed Caddix VTX holder
3D printed KST X08 servo trays (with m2 nuts melted into them)
3d printed motor mount extension with cooling

There is a cooling hole for the VTX below the camera lens, this scoops air straight on to the top of the Caddix VTX. The motor mount has air passages, so the air goes onto the ESC from there. It stays cool enough.

Hey Rupert! nice to see you made it to our forum. For those of you who don't know he holds the record for fastest fixed wing FPV flight - what is it now, 504 kph?
Hi Nigel, thanks for the big-up! Thanks also to the other users on here, the information here was so useful during the build of the Mini-Q.. CG especially!

The FPV speed record (unofficial) is currently 509kmh with my electric 14s Vasa Fusion and closely followed by the same plane with a turbine on it at 502kmh. I'm pretty sure the Mini-Q would be good for 400kmh+, in terms of drag and internal space. I may build another for LOS and see how fast it can go! CG was everything on this build though, I had to get everything as far forward as possible and had to extend the nose. It must have to be heavy as a glider just to get it to balance. Mine comes in at around 500g. I launch from the wingtip and it goes away like it's on a bit of string! So easy! Landings are a bit squirmy as it slows down, not having rudder, makes staying on centre quite hard.

Over all this is one of the best platforms I have flown in nearly 10 years of FPV. it is just so accurate. Having nice servos really helps, but the airframe / aerofoil on a plank has to be right for it to fly like this!

Here are the STL. files for 3d printing the parts needed for this FPV conversion using DJI HD.

Sweet - and that is a nice flying field. (except the hedge at the end of the run way..)

For slope glider use we can get the planes pretty darn light. We just put the battery forward. Nothing else really in the plane.

If needed you can completely remove the fiberglass under the canopy, and a different spar through could be installed to allow for more battery. Just a thought.. For top speed, I forget what the Mini Q has clocked in at on DS laps, but suspect it is probably approaching the 400kmh zone you mention. The plane does give up some speed with the less than perfect airfoil selection the designer went with. With this said, it is really hard to argue as the performance to price ratio is great, and as you noticed the handling is pretty darn good once you find the CG. It is one of those rare planes that is happy in the hands of a low time pilot or an advanced pilot, both will have great enjoyment from the same airframe.

@omegooliebird I have been watching your videos for a while, you used to fly with the spoctra50 guys right?
One thin i have wondered, from watching lots of youtubers in the uk, is about your flying sites. Do you have know people or is their some rule that you have public land use in certain areas? Seems like a lot of guys fly in similar fields in the uk.

Hey. Yeah I used to fly with Spoktra, those guys were so much fun! Good old days! I still watch the videos haha.

The field in the Mini-Q video is actually a designated model aeroplane club. The farmer who we rent our runway from is a cool guy and he lets us fly all over his land as land, as long as we stay away from the village. Most farmland in the UK looks similar to our site. The UK is a pretty small place!
