Mini Q

Do people try and do anything with the servo control arm to accommodate or offset the reflex that the Mini Q needs. With a neutral to the rear or leading edge ? On a related point if you can't get 100% true neutral would it be better to have it slightly pointing to the leading edge or pointing slightly towards the control horn on the elevon ? Thanks

You end up with very little throw for pitch, but plenty for roll. So it is very important to have linkage as tight as you can. Play in pitch linkage will make this plane a very poor experience. As I recall very little differential is needed, so see no reason to worry about offsetting the servo arm.

I was able to maiden the Mini Q this week. What can I say? Its a hoot! The first flight I had a friend launch it. There must have been a bit too much reflex, because it took a few clicks of down to get it flying right. No trim was needed for the ailerons. The Elevator was super twitchy after a few minutes I landed to make some adjustments on my radio. I added 35% expo to the elevator stick and had my friend launch it again. this time when he launched it it headed straight for the ground but I was able to keep it out of the dirt. I was much happier with it flight characteristics with the expo in the elevator. I flew it for about 15 minutes, this little bird really makes me grin.

There is a learning curve for the launch. When I launch it myself, I tossed it onto the ground about 50% of the time. I found a wing tip launch works best, but I think before I take it out again I am going too program a launch mode. it seems like it was easier to launch when I had too much reflex. I will let you know if that makes things easier.

At the end of the day I had flown it 6 times. I love this little bird!

Yes, a little up elevator at launch can help, especially at slopes that have cruddy air on the lip. You only need this input for a second.

When we tried to fly the first unit we did it in front of a crowd at our big Sunset event. We did not know for sure where the CG was or what the throws should be. It took a lot of crash landings before we found the magic settings. But once in the air Woohoo!

If you have a Tandem radio, the little buttons on the back are great for a launch mode.
