I just killed my DX7. I’m seriously considering an X18 but I’m not familiar with the os. I understand there is much more flexibility with the x18 but not really sure how difficult it will be to get up and running again. I really only fly dlg these days.

Ethos OS is pretty easy to use and setup, and there are lots of how to on youtube. You will need to purchase the newest FRsky Archer Plus receivers. Once you commit you will say why did I hang on to my DX7 for so long. FRsky has one of the most refined Telemetry systems.

Hi Tony, there are two DLG templates for the Frsky radios on Mike Shellim’s website: RC Soar.com. Take a look.

Literally everybody locally uses his full house thermal or slope templates, and have done so for years. Simple to set up, all the mixing is done for you. Follow the instructions and you are good to go!

I think you will kick yourself for not ditching the DX7 long ago. While the DX7 is easy to use, FrSky really packs a punch.

For DLG, you may want to consider the Twin X-lite radios. They are popular with the DLG pilots, commonly seen at the top levels. They are less likely to be thrown during the DLG launch. And the TWIN RF system is also popular with DLG pilots. If you prefer a standard style, the X14 is a little smaller than the X18, but the big let down is the loss of the touch screen, so might as well get the X18.

I personally fly an X18 and love the radio. Just wanted to make sure you considered the smaller units as they tend to be more popular with the DLG pilots. If you are inthe area, stop by and we will put them in your hands to get a better feel for them.

Thank you very much. I think I will end up getting the x18.

I did find what you were talking about and have already read it twice. It is actually much easier to understand then I thought it would be.

I’d like that but I’m in NE Texas. I believe I’ll end up with the x18. I really do like all of the options as well as the telemetry. The x-lite series looks nice but I’ve always preferred a full sized transmitter.

I just wanted to say thank you for all of your quick replies as well as tell you that my new x18 has arrived and it is beautiful. I’m going through the manual and the info on rc-soar again. With a little luck I’ll be flying this weekend. Thanks again for the excellent information.

Woah, I didn't know this existed. I'll have to check that out.

Hello again. I’m hoping someone can help me out here. My new x18 and I are not getting along too well. I downloaded the latest ethos suit 1.6.2 and while backing up the radio things went fine. When I started updating the firmware all hell broke loose. lol the radio locked up and wouldn’t respond to any input, couldn’t even power it off. The firmware was initially at 1.4.7 and the bootloader was at 1.4.3. Now it looks like this. I tried to use my backup but nothing changed. I also tried to restore to factory settings but it just says waiting for disk, then missing drive. I really like this radio and want to get it up and running. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for the info. @ Wayne -see if I can get it up and running first. If not I’ll gladly take the help. Again, I really like this radio and have been using the simulator to test out different ideas.

We should probably look at all of the X18 radios before we ship them to bring them up. FrSky does not even attempt to send radios with current firmware.

Just a quick update- everything on the radio is currently updated. I followed Henny’s link and advice and it worked out great. Thank you very much. Also, thanks to everyone for your help as well. It is greatly appreciated. On a side note though… I didn’t think the stuff I did with the simulator wouldn’t transfer over to the radio during the process. Kinda cool if you ask me.
