Radio won't turn on after latest upgrade

I upgraded to the latest software and my radio became disconnected after everything was loaded. I plugged it back in. Once I unplugged it it now won't turn on. I tried going into bootloader mode by holding the horizontal trims to center while powering on, but I'm getting nothing. Has anyone had this issue and how did you solve it? Also, right now I don't have an SD card in my radio.

Thank you.

Which radio type are you trying to update

I have an X18 running Ethos. I was going to update to 1.6 Everything seemed to download fine. It looks like I might need Windows to actually fix this thing but maybe not.

X18 Bootloader is accessed by holding down the "enter" button when powering up.

You seem to have some mixed information on what you are doing. Did you use Ethos Suite?

So, I'm on the latest Ethos suite. Went into boot loader mode, then connected. Everything got updated except for the boot loading firmware. It recognizes my radio and even has my models in it. Go to flash to new loader, get into a long waiting period then it states that I need to download a file from Github and use DFU flasher. The problem is that I cannot power up my radio as required. Also, once I get past that point I get a message that my radio is not connected. Futhermore, the only way to power down at that point is to unplug my battery. Pretty frustrating. Everything was going well in the update process until it didn't, and now I have a fully bricked radio. Any advice at this point is greatly appreciated.

Should not need the DFU extension, something went wrong in the process. Hard to say what. Think we better get her in and see if we can get a little life back into her.

Wow. I finally fixed it, and it was a freakin' ride. I think that because I'm working on a Mac I had to download a program called STMCube32Programmer. That gives me the capability of using a DFU flasher, which I absolutely needed because the boot loader was completely bricked. I don't think you need this for Windows but I'm not certain. I then had to go to Github to get the latest boot loader, as the Ethos Suite stated that it was unable to, "switch formats," and I'd be on a long timer which would then say, "Use a DFU Flasher." From there, I had to make a connection to the computer without powering on the radio, but by holding the enter button for ten seconds and then connecting via USB. Once there, I was able to find the boot loader file, ensure that the DFU was recognized by my Mac, (which was also a trial and error process), and then finally I was able to flash to the latest boot loader.

Like most things that are new to me, this was pretty frustrating, but I'm pretty happy that it's all sorted out. That was a bit insane and one hell of a roller coaster.

That is really odd that you had to go through all of that. Unless your X18 is really old and never had any updates. But even then, it would not have been bricked. No idea why you got to experience this fun rollercoaster ride. I use a MAC here at the office and have updated Ethos units from time to time without issue.

Yeah... It was super fun.

Next question... Did you update your RF to the latest version? If you did that, did you also update all of your receivers, and if so, were you able to connect them to your radio and then update the firmware or did you do it hard wired through the SBUS? I'm on 2.22 on my radio, we're up to 3.1. I'm unable to register and bind the Archer R6 that I just received today and I'm wondering if the firmware on that receiver is incompatible with my older RF firmware.

I was about to update my X18 prior to Sunset, and decided I better not mess with it as I didn't want to upset the applecart. Will need to jump on it pretty soon.

I will not use the OTA updating as it can brick a receiver in the rare times it fails. There is some sort of bug that FrSky has not yet identified.
