Tracer 2 Meter is here!!

I second speed over torque in the servo selection.

If this is really your very first glider, might I recommed a wood veneer skinned model to cut your teeth on.

Konrad- Thank you for the insight very helpful. I may be biting off more than I should. I have been flying rc planes for 17 years so not new to the hobby just new to slope soaring. Have a park 15 min from my house and a new friend that is showing me the ropes.

I run a spectrum NX10 and have programmed crow and etc on a few of my planes. So have the basics, but will be working with my friend.

Thanks for the video on the lDS system set up. For that sizing when looking at the kit for the X10mini it asks for 2 sizes. and not sure what that sizing refers to. was guessing push rod length but not sure of the second. If I went with the x10 mini and A08 what lDS kit would I need to select?

Just took a closer look at the model.
I like the X10 Mini for the flap:

The aileron bay is large enough and deep enough to handle a 10mm thick servo like the X10 Mini. (measured 9.78mm deep at the bottom of the pocket) But will be a little easier with the 8mm thick servos like the X08, X08+, HS08 or A08. So plenty of options there.

Fuselage would be fine with the 8mm servos as suggested by Konrad, or you could also go with something like a KST 315:
(I like the speed of this servo and similar sized servos for elevators.)

If you wanted to save weight you might focus on using just the HS08 or A08 family for every surface.

Lots of options.

Hope this helps.
Wayne- Thank you! this is a huge help :) thanks for measuring the kit for me. :) I did order the plane and will order the guts soon. Wasn't sure how quick of a response I would get. But you and Konrad were lightening fast. :)

Great that you have experienced help. With slope flying it will take some getting use to the idea that the elevator doesn't make the model go up rather the elevator controls speed.

I'm still not sure about your IDS size question. The Servorahmen IDS can fit both the 30mm long X-10 mini and the 35mm long X-10.
This has worked well for me with the X-08 and HS08a

Huh? ...

Hum, ok that is true of just about all heavier than air ships.

It is power/energy that makes a plane go up. Usually with the flat land stuff it is the thrust from the power plant that drive the plane vertically. With the gliders thermal and/or slope it is the energy in the air that makes the plane climb. The elevator turns speed into altitude by slowing down the ship, assuming you stay out of the stall.

This is often painfully demonstrated when you are low and slow scraping for altitude. Adding up elevator just results in sinking further down the face of the slope.

Wayne-
- For the X10 mini's LDS kit what servo length and size should be selected?
- And for the X08- it has Servo length and Control Horn height? (looks like Servo length of 4mm with a control horn of 4.5mm is all you have in stock. This the right size?)

Thanks,
Tim

Looks great! Great to see some video. Sweet slope too.

I can't tell if it was a bit of turbulence, or if you might need a bit of differential adjusted on the ailerons. Looked to be a bit of tail wag at times.

Looks like she carries the energy really well, and has a nice bit of sound as she comes up to speed. :) I really need to build one of these for myself.

Thanks Wayne!

The lift/wind was a bit funky that day. It was only 8-10 mph with some gusts mixed in and I wasn't sure if it was even gonna fly. I was flying my soarkraft roughgen right before the tracer and I was having a hard time keeping it up but to my surprise the Tracer flew pretty good. The next time I get to fly it I'll definitely play around with the diff. I'm a noob so appreciate any tips

Jake

Custom colors thanks to Aloft's excellent customer service. The white nose cone is from my Tracer #1, which still needs a maiden flight.

Yeah, I like the white nose cone. Can order one in if you like, but probably easier to just spray yours.
