XJT External Module D-16 upgrade

Is there a process to upgrade the stand alone XJT External Module to Accst v2.1.x. I ask as I have XJT that is not assigned to a FrSky TX. The read me file mentions SD cards. None of my XJT modules have an SD slot. It is not clear but it appears that I need to use a FrSky TX to upgrade the modules on my JR radios. This is looking like a circular problem. If I have a FrSky TX why would I need a XJT module for the JR radio.

You know I have on one those in the bottom of my FrSky box. Just as part of my FrSky experience I'll have to try it.
