Xact 5701A servo

I wanted to highlight this LITTLE servo as many may miss it.

When Frsky first got into the high end servo game, I thought, oh boy, here comes yet another company that thinks they can play in the high end servo marketplace. And sure enough, their first attempt was not well received, so they killed those off and went back to the drawing board. Their second entry into the market brought massive improvements and new features like telemetry that is cute and all, but the servos themselves were decent this time. Well, it has been a few years and Frsky has been working to further improve their servos. This little 5701A is a great example. I really do think this is the best 6mm servo on the market regardless of price.

The KST 6mm servos fall short of their mark with poor centering for the price. So it is impressive to see FrSky coming along and pack a boat load of power into this wide voltage servo as well as a hall effect sensor. It is not an easy task to get good centering on this thin a servo, but that appears to be what they have done. Other brands struggle to do this with 8 or even 12mm servos, but they did it with just 6mm! The torque is nearly double of the KST X06 at the same blistering speed. Impressive.

If you are building something that demands a tiny servo with great specs and centering, look no further!

Yes, we all wish Frsky had better servo names, etc. At one point I nearly took over their servo marketing for them. I'm glad I didn't, but it is great to see them taking on the big dogs and surpassing them. You should consider the FrSky servos for your next high end build.

I should add that I have sold a lot of their BLS servos to the DS pilots, so FrSky servos are in some of the fastest planes on the planet. :)

Can they be programmed without a FrSky radio? I love this feature on the KSTs. Once a servo is mounted, say multiple flaps, you get the little programming box and digitally reestablish the center.

Not that I am aware of.

We typically adjust our subtrims in our radios for minor centering. With a frsky radio you can adjust EVERYTHING. They have so many adjustments it is overwhelming. Luckily they have them well tuned as delivered. Occasionally in the older series you could develop a feedback loop in a model and the servo would fight itself, this would need to be adjusted in the tuning. This can happen with any servo that has a near zero deadband that is operating a heavy control surface that has very tight linkages. (More an issue for large 3D ships.)

I am experiencing some of that kind of feedback-loop jitter on my new H5701's... not sure how to tune it out though. Tried reducing the refresh rate from 1000 to 700, but no luck.

In one of the servo threads we posted up a little detail on the different options, but honestly they have not given us much to go by. I think it best to write down the current numbers, and then play around and tame the feedback.
