X9D Plus module bay not working

NTTD

New User
I have what I believe to be an early X9D+ (purchased in 2015 from Hobby King).

I've never been able to get an external module to work. First with origional FW and later with OpenTX.

I always chalked it up to crappy modules (purchased from BangGood etc.), but after having issues with 3 different ones I think it may be the radio.

I remember reading something years ago that there were reports of early models had issues with modules but can't remember where I saw it.

I really love this controller, even upgraded to the hall effect gimbals a couple years back.
I'm at the point now where I'd really like to be able to use external modules and don't really want to buy a new controller to make it happen.

Any suggestions? Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Thanks

Maybe a silly question here... Did you turn it on in the model setup?
I just had to ask, you never know...

Do you have any way to test if there is power to the pins while on? Otherwise I would say it is a faulty backboard...

That's for the reply.
I'll have to look up a schematic and do some probing with a multimeter.
I do remember LEDs on the modules lighting up.
My main reason for posting was to check if it was indeed know if the early ones had bays that did not function. I believe I read this on R groups a while ago.
Most likely I'm missing something.

which external module to what receiver are you trying to get to work. There is a limit to what will work in the module bay.
