x20s and r9mm poor rc reception

hello, anyone with frsky experience?
i have a frsky x20s tx and r9mm rxs. i updated the tx to ethos 1.6.0 and the rf module to 3.0.1. after doing so the old receivers that had already been bound seem to work okay. when i try to bind a new receiver it goes thru the bind process okay. but the link is very intermittent and poor. definitely not right. any ideas? i have reflashed everything including the receivers to access firmware with no change. any ideas anybody. i'm getting desperate. thanks.

I get the same symptoms if the Rx and Tx are too close to each other, i would try doing a range check and see the signal improves with distance.
