X20RS, Issues with radio not seeing Mike Shellims e-soar max template "esm211.bin" in models folder of SD Card.

I've been having major issues with this new X20RS radio. Received Radio with Ethos 1.6.2 which has now been updated to 1.6.4. When copying Mike Shellim's e-soar maxx template esm211.bin to the SD Card the file does not register to a new model. Does not read from the card. I've also copied the radio.bin file to the card and renamed it firmware.bin with no success. There is nowhere within the 475 page ethos manual that tells us to do that; however many web searches say that it is required for radio to read from the card. Any suggestion's

Just wanted to thank the members of this forum for their inputs in regards to the issues I was having with my new FrSky X-20RS Radio. Most of the issues I was having were related to a combination of different things. Primarily the charging cord not being a data cord, Windows 11 and Norton 360 being the other. Was able to re-load the software (ethos) after disabling Norton 360. Still got the occasional error message about not seeing the radio, but ran the fix, no errors were found. Radio seems to be working fine now. Thanks Again
Did you check Mike's manual? He usually does a very good job of covering the needed steps. Trust me, you will need his manual, he does some very advanced programming.

Using Mike's programming IMHO is like jumping into the deep end of a pool for your first swimming lesson. Best to learn a little dog paddling first.

@JPSpectra Where did you put the file? At the root of the card there are a number of folders,
In the image below showing the file path of one of my backups the Ethos...zip represents the root of the sd card. Your model file needs to be in the models folder. I have created a sub-folder named Templates which is where I put template files. When I make a new model that wants to use one of those, I clone the template and then move it to its destination folder.

Yes, I have: I believe the issues I'm experiencing may be due to the supplied usba - to - usbc being a charging cord and not a data cord. Mike's instructions are very clear and well written. I'm pretty sure that my firmware update to 1.6.4 is corrupted. Radio doesn't even see the bitmaps which were working flawlessly before. At one point I had Mikes program working up thru calibration to section 5, but when I got into the vars section I wasn't getting any movements from any of the surfaces.

Hi Wayne, thanks for your support, let me know if I'm on the right track in regards to the USB cord not being a high speed data cord. Purchased this new FrSky X20RS Radio as an upgrade to my two outdated JR9303 radio's. I've been out of the hobby for about ten years as I've been busy building our home and workshop here in Jobs Peak Ranch. Currently building a new set "4th iteration" of my own design Spectra 123" TD ships. These new ships have new airfoils that I worked out with the late Tom Copp of F3X and are first one is being powered with an X-Power Windy 8. It probably doesn't help that I'm trying to pre-program the servo's so that I can vacuum bag them in the wing cores.

You need to copy the bin file to the "Models" folder on your TX.
If it is somewhere else you won't see it.
I've currently got the firmware.bin file placed at the top and not within any of the folders on San Disc 16 gb Industrial Card, IE: models/ audio/ bitmaps/ firmware updates. Mike Shellim's e-soar maxx esm211xv.bin is in the models folder. When in file manager I can see all the files on the SD Card, but the radio's internal memory is not reading any of them. Thanks for your help. JP Spectra

Typically FrSky does not include a USB cable. This is due to an EU law to limit E waste. It is assumed that everyone already has a drawer full of USB C cables to pick from. So yeah, might want to try another cable, but the majority of USB C cables will be fully connected for data and power. With that said I have seen some that are only power, they usually come with some questionable lights or silly things from China.
