X20 internal memory problem

My cousin was having issues with updating his X20 mainly because he wasn't doing it with bootloader 1.4.15 installed. Anyway I managed to upgrade to version 1.6.3, bootloader 1.4.15 and internal module to 3.0.3 but when started the screens are missing some icons like the home screen house, plane, folders and gear cog, plus a lot of others. I assumed that this was due to some system bitmaps being missing so I did the update again but this time telling it to install all components, still no luck. When I look in the Flash folder (internal memory) I can see that it looks empty but it won't allow me to copy the files to it as there isn't enough space (sure enough the 8Mb is all used up). Looking at the hidden file Is can see that the folders and files are in a subfolder called Trashes but it won't allow me to move them back to the root of that memory. I've tried to delete them but it won't let me and if I try to reformat the memory Windows says that it can't complete the operation!

Whilst radio works it is useless without the missing graphics!!!

Interesting. Couple of thoughts. Does your cousin have a Mac? They like to write a bunch of garbage files onto drives. Usually they don't cause much issue.

Have you tried doing the updates with the radio turned off? I think that method may work a little better. Worse comes to worse, might be time to send it into FrSky in Brea Calif to get some cleanup performed.

If you connect the USB with the radio running normally, the 8mB internal drive is readonly. You need to start in bootloader mode to be able to write/delete files on it.
The internal drive is actually half of a single chip, the other half contains the main firmware.

Thanks Mike, I think that's done the trick, whilst I had been using it in bootloader mode for the best part of a day when I tried to manually delete the files it obviously wasn't in that mode. I now have a better screen so will go back to the Suite and try another update just in case I've missed something.
