X20 connection to RC Simulators

With my Taranis X9D Plus 2019 SE, it took some fancy driver work to get the computer to communicate the transmitter with the simulator.

I'm trying to get my X20 to work on my sims (Picasim, RF8, TinyWhoopGo) but my computer won't recognize the inputs from the transmitter.

Anyone here know how to get it to work?

I dont think that the HID devive driver for usb has been implemented yet, so you may need one of these:

I use the XSR-SIM with my ETHOS set up X10S and it works fine. However I had to flash the firmware on mine (purchased several years ago) to the latest SIM ACCST version as there is no access firmware. It is easy to do - the hardest part is making the cable so you can flash it.

Alright, I've gone and ordered the XSR-SIM dongle. for updating the D16 protocol, I need to connect it directly to the radio. Does anyone have a diagram with the pin layouts for the module bay? or is that a different spot where I should make the connection?
Actually, after some more digging, looks like I just connect to the Smart Port behind the screen and can flash firmwares from there. correct?

The dongle, which emulates a receiver, may already be flashed with the new ACCST when you get it. You are right about about the smart port behind the screen, but where you may have difficulty is finding where on the dongle to connect. Unless the recent dongles have changed, you have to open it up and then have a way to connect to pin outs on the board. Hopefully you won't have to do that. If you do, I can send you some images and the cable I made.

i don't think they have updated the dongle in years. I fully expect to have to open it up and flash the latest. If you could send those pics, that would be great!

I really don't recommend you try this except as a last resort. It worked fine for me but I guarantee nothing. Try the dongle with your software and see if it is detected. If not - picture one shows the inside of the dongle. The cover is removed by pressing the tabs on either side. My board had the holes as marked. I then made up a cable from an extension cable by removing the housing from the end into which another cable would be attached. This left me with the pins as shown which I manually inserted in the correct holes and held while I flashed the firmware from my transmitter. There is probably every chance you could inadvertently short something out and damage either the dongle or the transmitter so be extremely careful.

alright, i've updated the XSR-SIM dongle to latest D16. still not binding.

any help?

Update:
nevermind. i got it :)
let the flights begin

turns out I completely forgot how to bind ACCST receivers. I'd press the bind button while powering on and the red would hold solid and the green flash as it should. and I'd wait for my TX to show the receiver so i could select it. Like with the new ACCESS receivers. turns out the solid red and flashing green means the bind was successful. I got it up and working just fine with PicaSim. I'll try RF8 next.
