X10s to ETHOS

I had ETHOS on my X10s working fine. VERY IMPRESSED. I switched from opentx to try it out. Everything was working fine till i tried to update the ISRM to 2.1.6. now no more ISRM cant even get it back. All was fine even had a plane with S8R. None of the ISRM firmware will even flash the module now. any ideas?

What were you running before the attempt to update to ISRM 2.1.6? I assume this was ISRM 1.1.3.

If so you hit the ACCeSS v1 verses v2 incompatibility issue. You will need to make sure that both the The TX and RX are running the same higher version number 2.1.xx.

See the read me file in the download file from the FrSky site.

readme.txt Release note

Firmware Version: v2.1.6

The new updates of ACCESS 2.X.X not only fixed the known channel output error (uncontrolled servo movements) under certain conditions, but also optimized RF performance and added many useful features. It is highly recommended that all ACCESS customers upgrade to 2.X.X or later version of ISRM RF modules and receivers.

All the best,
Konrad

thank you. receivers are all 2.1. I will review the file you suggested. hope I can bring the access isrm back to life.

S8R is an ACCST rx.

If everything is v2.1.xx you may have other issues.

I've had many update issue with the FrSky supplied SD cards. Re-loading fresh software on known high quality SD cards and most of my upgrade problems went away.

OK I had everything working fine ! I configured a couple of planes communications was good to the receivers including the S8R. I feel that the ISRM firmware i tried to flash to the module was for the x10s express. I am very familiar with the communications hardware and the firmware. been using access with opentx for a while. ETHOS was fine till i flashed the 2.1.6 ISRM firmware then no communication . not even the module id. It is as if the access module is not present. when i try to flash i get device reset ( normal ) then device not responding. At this point i hope i didnt kill the ISRM module .

I cant even locate the original ISRM x10s RF firmware. Ill keep searching but if i cant communicate with the module i may be screwed. Do you think if i go back to opentx the module might wake up. I can find the OS on FRSKY site for x10s ISRM but no early RF firmware.

I didnt post replys properly. I reflashed and reinstalled opentx. ISRM module will not flash there either. (2.1.0) It appears that the module is dead. are there any tricks that might reset it.

I see 3 version of ISRM firmware here under ISRM RF firmware.

Not sure why you are looking at OpenTX.

Sorry that's all I got,

All the best,
Konrad

thank you
somehow the flash killed the ISRM module. if you know any tricks that might let me reset it. bug help. I would buy a spare but there are none available.

This is just a general statement. I fear far too many folks think that firmware updates kill (brick) hardware. This is rarely the case. (Yes, it can happen).

I'd send it in to FrSky, ok Aloft Hobbies for service. These guys have more experiance and success with customer induced issue than any other American based service center. They have pulled my butt out of the fire more than once. Well worth the cost!

Unfortunately with FrSky I've experienced that this can be the case, it is SUPER important to make sure it is the correct firmware you send too a device. I know I bricked a non-Archer Receiver by accidentally sending it Archer firmware (same version number, different target device)

That is an RX. I'm sure with the compiler used at the OEM that even a bricked RX can be reloaded. But probably not financially a viable proposition.
Your RX was a trap, same revision numbers and date! Real easy to make that mistake. For a consumer firm FrSky really needs to work on their human factors issues.

The TX has a more robust/flexible chip and should be easier to wipe clean and reload the appropriate FW. I know Aloft had kept a lot of hardware out of the land fills. I know as I've bought a few abandoned (customer returns)TX. One of the benefits of having Aloft Hobbies as my LHS!

I dont think the express is the same. as i gave that a try first. It didnt kill the module though. The TD-ISRM 2.1.6 killed it. no comm after that

This is more for my edification than anything else.
I thought that the Horus X10S running an ISRM is an Express. Is this radio a converted Horus X10S to run an ISRM module?

Per the Aloft sales page and FrSky download page, the add on ISRM module needs a special firmware.

What is a TD-ISRM 2.1.6? (It looks like a FW package for the X20 Tandem).

you are correct x10s converted to ISRM
the problem started when i read an update warning about the access module . when reading the compatible modules it led me to believe that the
ISRM module that i had in the x10s needed this update. Then i apparently went down the wrong path. If they would just put one list of the ISRMs that needed this update.
Still I did it - not frsky.
Was hoping there would be some magic fix that would allow the communication to restart on the module. When i try to flash anything - i get module not present.!!
Thank you for asking

All ISRM modules* need to be updated to v2.1.xx. This is a critical safety issue. I don't know why FrSky doesn't seem to have a product production release for this "urgent upgrade".

*I don't know this, but hope that the new X20 is being released from the factory with v2.1.xx. But if FrSky's past history with configuration control holds, I doubt it.

All the best,

Konrad

My X20S came from Aloft with 2.1.8. Don't know if it came like that from the factory, or if Aloft updated it before shipping.

nothing i can do now there are no communications to the module. when i try to flash the reset comes up and then no module found. I switched back to otx same problem. I reinstalled the original no access module that came with the radio and works fine. so the ISRM module got killed by the firmware update.
thanks keith

That may be so. But drop Aloft a line through there contact us link on their flash page.

Often factory approved service centers have information/tools that are not published. Not saying that Aloft has a secret decoder ring, but give them a try.

Are you aware the up dated ISRM module for the non Express version of X10S requires a special version of the ISRM firmware. Aloft can help you with this version. If you try flashing this upgrade module with the Express version ISRM it wont work.
