The X10S may need a fresher firmware, but I sort of doubt it. Are you running OpenTX or Ethos on it? If Ethos, by all means bring it up to current updates as it is pretty darn easy. Double check the RF firmwares are correct. Ethos Suite software on your computer will do all of this for you.
Assuming the firmwares are happy, then the process is pretty easy.
1-Power up the receiver while pushing the bind button.
2- Enter bind mode from the transmitter and answer the questions it may ask. When it enters bind mode you will see the flashing lights on the receiver change when the bind is successful.
3- Turn off the bind mode in the TX, and turn off the power to the receiver.
4- Now enter the register mode on the transmitter, and restore power to the receiver. The transmitter should see the receiver and let you pick it from a little menu. Select the receiver and you are registered.
