X10S battery

New User
I cannot find a replacement battery for the X10S in the US. Looking for ideas.
Does anyone know a source for the board in the stock battery?
Is that board really needed? If it is not needed, will just build a new battery and use an external charger.
Ideas please....

Hi.
Same problem. I cannot find battery. It is not normal that FrSky does not have expandable parts for transmitter in price range 400-500$.
Do not buy battery for X10s Express because it does not work. You cannot charge it with original charger.
I'm from Europe and there is one shop in Germany but price for battery is ridiculous. They ask 50 Eur +shipping for 2600mAh battery.
For me too expensive, because it will cost me around 70Eur with shipping.
Easiest way is to take PCB from old battery and connect with 2 Li ION 18650 battery's.
Or buy battery for Exspress and connect with PCB taken from old batterie.
Welcome to the club.
Never again FrSky.

P.S. I think that you can buy PCB in aloft store. Still waiting for confirmation from store

The battery for X10S is a standard 18650 flat top lithium cell. You will find many choices if you look on Ebay. The best type is a 3400mAH size. The Horus Express has a new charging system, if you own a Samsung phone you can use this charger and the supplied USB cable that came with your TX to charge the replaceable 18650 cells. Simply insert the 2 cell into your radio plug in the USB cable and wait until the green goes out.

The required 18650 cell type is the one without an internal board. Keep things simple.

Once you insert the 18650 batteries into your X10S Express radio, plug the mini USB cable that came with the radio into the rear USB socket, the other end of this USB cable plugs into any USB charger such as the Samsung phone charger. With the radio turned off and plugged into the USB charger the green on/off switch Led will be green indicating the Horus batteries are being charged. Once the Led is off the batteries are fully charged. This only apply's to the X10S Express radio.

The old version of the X10S had a AC voltage plug pack to charge the internal, non removable 18650 batteries which can be purchased ready to use from Aloft.

Is your radio the old X10S or the new X10S Express radio. Yes the old X10S had a small balance board attached to the twin 18650 battery pack. This balance board is required. If this battery pack is faulty you have two options, purchase a new battery pack ready to plug in from Aloft, or dismantle the faulty battery pack and replace the 18650 cells and re package it again re connecting the balance board as it was in the defective battery pack.

Need new battery for the X10S (gen 2), NOT the new Express model. The original battery has a temp sensor/bms. Has anyone tried a battery without the temperature sensor?

Hi
As OP stated, we have both X10s (GEN2). I tried battery without protection and it works only like energy source when plugged in.
But you cannot charge this battery inside transmitter with original charger. You will have blinking green light ie charge error.
Can you give me a link for new battery pack from Aloft for old X10s

I'll check with Jan, I think he adds the temp sensor to those packs to make the charger happy.

What we have done a number of times is build up a new pack for folks with either their old circuit board, or we have brand new boards here. We just ran out of 2S battery connectors, so could not make new packs for people. We should have new connectors here any time now for building new packs with the boards. If anyone would like to buy a board, we can sell you those also, just not up on our site, so email us. contact@alofthobbies.com

At this time the packs and the boards are not on our site, so email is the best way to get these items.

Hope this helps.

Just so that everyone knows. When you use a new board, you have to "Activate it" by shorting two of the pads. You will need a short piece of wire (or a pair of pliers) and short the P- and B- pads. Just for a second or so. Then the battery, and board, will work normally.

Wayne,

How can I tell if my X10s is the older or newer version. (not the Express)

Mine has a battery door and the battery looks to have a standard balance plug as the only output. It has red yellow and black wires. I notice there is a wire that lays over the battery between it and the battery door that I assume is a temp sensor? That wire stays in the radio when the battery is removed.

Not sure if I need a special battery or an off the shelf type.

If it is not an EXPRESS you have the older battery with the board. Though I am not sure by what you mean by a wire laying over. Picture?

I'm confused. My memory may be wrong, but I think only the Express has a battery door. Earlier versions you had to turn screws to get to the battery.

Yes the older version non Express X10/ X10S version did not have a battery door on the rear of the radio.

You can see the sensor (I am assuming its a sensor) in the photos. The wire runs to the board that the battery plugs in to.

The battery has a standard balance plug on it as its only plug and when plugged into my battery tester I can see the voltage of both cells as well as the total voltage.

From what I see a standard Lipo should work? Or so I think.

Of course I did not cut open the battery to see if there is a board inside of it.

The image says X12S battery. Are we talking about the same radio. X10 / X10S is a different model. The X12S was never Express capabile.
