Thought I would let you know that FrSky has announced the upgrade option for the Horus radios. This is new boards that should be pretty easy to install by the end user. If needed we will be available to do the installs for you.

ACCESS Upgrade Kit for X10 and X10S.jpg

We are told that the X12S kits will be ready in the near future.

We will be stocking these as soon as possible.

Yeas, it will as far as I know. The only other change will be a battery bay door on the back of the Express, hardly a concern.

I think the target is $60, but have not seen any official pricing yet.

That is in line with what it cost 10 years ago to convert from the Spektrum Transmitter DSM2 to DSMX. That conversion cost several months and S&H charges! As this is looking like a customer upgrade, hats off the FrSky!

Will the Para board installation require desoldering and soldering back? I know the RF module has a connector but what about the Para?

Yes, I think the Para board does require soldering, so this may be something people will want us to perform for them.

Hi guys! Any news from FrSky about the upgrade kit for X12S coming soon?

I checked with Frsky the word i got back was none of the dealers in the US have the kit's available but they are available directly from China Frsky i think i will wait for the Aloft to get them in, i have not read to much of people doing this upgrade

The boards have been available from Frsky horus directly for some time now i have the boards setting here not installed due to all the problems they have had and the fact that my Horus has been rock solid so far also the fact that all my receivers would have to upgraded as well as it is said if it works don't fix it.

We have the boards here, but not on the site. I am not a fan of them so haven't done much with them.

Any explanation of why you are not a fan? Any specific issue? Is it easy to install? I understand the Para board is difficult to unsolder.

Hans there are a couple of reasons. Yes the para board is risky to remove from the motherboard without the proper surface mount desoldering gear. The pin spacing is very close and a soldering iron will probably damage the motherboard. Soldering the para back in is also difficult without the proper SMD soldering experience. FRsky has not released a production version of the ISRM firmware for the X10S series radios. I upgraded my X10S and while it did work the range was not as good as the IXJT module so ended up modifying the radio back as original then selling my X10S and purchased the X10S Express. ACCESS works perfectly in the newer radios. Modifying a X10S to operate in ACCESS mode does not result in an Express version. The Express radio has a completely different motherboard with a high speed buss.

This makes no sense as the upgrade module for the X10 works just the same as the one in the X10 Express.
Modifying a X10S to operate in ACCESS mode does not result in an Express version.
Only the external module interface changes. Anything regarding the internal module is the same.
