Where to buy brushless motors?

Is there something like mouser, but for motors? On mouser there isn't a very large selection of dc motors. There are some hobby shops that sell that stuff, but it's really hard to search by a specific spec, like torque or power requirement etc. I really like the power search on mouser/digikey for other discrete components, but they don't have a good selection of motors. Are those brushless motors any good? https://www.dynamrc.com/collections/power-systems I am struggling to find an brushless motor for my plane model. An advice?

OK - You are looking for a motor? What application do you have in mind?

In general, NO, do not buy motors from an electronics supply house. Very different application.

At Aloft we provide a free service to help match your airframe to a power package. Typically with a model there is a goal and a limitation. For example, the fuselage is only 30mm wide and the power system must provide as much thrust as possible and weigh less than 50 grams. Or with larger power planes with landing gear size and weight may not be an issue at all, but can not use a prop larger that 12" due to ground clearance.

You can email us at contact@alofthobbies.com and explain what you are after and any limitations and we should be able to suggest a great fit for you.

When selecting a motor we are also very interested in packaging, weight, ESC and battery as well as the prop. All must be in harmony with the airframe. And there is no one ideal combo as goals for a given airframe may be very different from one pilot to the next. Minimum weight, with max thrust or perhaps just maximum speed. Most people tend to be in the middle and want an efficient and reliable power system that will not melt down.

There is a lot of math to work out these combos. It is not as easy as torque and horse power, in fact we do not use those at all.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, what kind of aircraft is it and what kind of performance are you looking for? How much room is there for motor? What is the estimated weight of your aircraft? I can likely make up a power system for you from stuff we have at Aloft.
