Whats up Lads?

Hey, chaps and chapesses, winter is here, Christmas is coming, and a new year is almost upon us - so what's the plan, Dan?

But what is going on in the US of A?

This forum, normally so lively, has been declining in recent months to almost no interesting posts, just tech stuff about the radios mostly, and I know that's not the case. Are we all going into hibernation, or are we hatching out exciting plans for 2025?

The more creative among us - I hope I'm one - will be designing and planning the construction of new models - and I can tell you I have BIG PLANS for 2025, while others have been eyeing the next addition to their fleet, while desperately trying to keep She Who Must Be obeyed from finding out...:ROFLMAO:
From Aeroic, I'll be trying my best to make my models better and to listen to the advice of my customers as always, and I think there will be some cool stuff coming.

As to events, these are thin on the ground compared to, let's say, 20 years ago, but there will be the C&F that we will be sponsoring in May and maybe another event too in 2025. So there's that to look forward to, and I hope we can come over for those. But why is this aspect in such a steep decline?

News: I'll be writing a column in the famous European Aufwind magazine, now to be published in English and German, which I hope will interesting as I don't intend to keep it all "Euro-oriented" as has been pretty much the case until now. I plan a much broader approach, and USA News will be there, too. Also, I'm doing a monthly newsletter with an article each month, which I hope can stoke a bit of interest, too. So do let me know what going on if you want to see it in print.:cool:

So what's up? What are you planning?

Let us know - let's have all the fun that this fascinating hobby makes possible!

Do tell,

Doc.

I hear you Doc - I noticed a drop off in activity too. My upscaled Obelix project got temporarily sidelined 2 Septembers ago by my art efforts which share the workshop space (@elliotfandesign). I expect to resume after the new year. Same goes for the repairs to the Alpina.

Muc of this drop off is my fault for not fixing an email issue with the site. Believe it or not, I actually started digging into this issue earlier this week.

Basically the system emails get targeted as spam and killed of as I have not set up some internet wiz bang stuff correctly.

DJ> So what's up? What are you planning?

An OFB gave me a SATELLITE-1000 wing, an 85-inch span 1970's engine powered free flight contest model..
In order to get it back in the air, I need to build a suitable fuselage.
I think the John Woodfield OCEAN BREEZE fuselage will do the trick.

PROJECT INFO:
OCEAN BREEZE slope glider group scratch build

PS: I've already received my motor and servos for this project from Aloft.

Thanks, Mucky!

Wow! Good one G!

Guys - this is the friendliest and best-attenuated model aeroplane forum on the surface of this planet.

So post, post, post, discuss, discuss, discuss - when you think about it - more brains = more horsepower.

How many thousands of years of accumulated experience do we have collectively?

Let's talk and have fun!

Doc.

I had to take a few years off due to life..... and barely came back to flying around the Soar Utah 2024 time after my dobe died in August (Doc, you probably wont remember but quite a few years ago on one of the RCG threads we were chatting about dobes, kind of creepy i remember that eh?) I got some cheapo arfs to fly at point of the mountain to get my "thumbs back" and I have the Cubic from Wayne (with no pictures or manual to go by that is making me stare at the parts on a work bench every day pondering), and an old unboxed Reichard Rapid to build over winter. I dont have the free expense money like i use to (i bought my first house in 2020) so i will slowly replace my large 3-4 year old Lipos for my power planes to use at the power field in 2025. I also ended up getting a X20RS to use as my solution to glider programming as my XG-11 glider programming pretty much involves titling the models "ETHOS ROCKS" for "DIRTY WORD JR" for JR glider programming. Seems like the only glider support for JR is Ali at flightcomp but no way in heck and im paying that kind of money for an Elite to be successfull at glider programming (thats like 2 or 3 nice planes for the cost of the TX)

Hey Aprilia,
I do remember our chats on Doberman dogs years ago. I still have two - not my original two, Chilli and Pepper, who have sadly passed on now, but two rescue dogs, Anna and Twiggy - both females. They are both really smart and lovable and now have a loving home, a garden and a huge, mostly empty beach to enjoy.

If you find the prospect of fitting out your Cubic a bit daunting, post it here. I'm sure many people who have made the model would love to help you get it going. If not, then if it's just "how to's", again, there can be a lot of help as most moulded models are pretty generic to fit out and assemble now. I'm happy to help where I can.

Here is the Cubic thread in this forum: https://forum.alofthobbies.com/index.php?threads/vp-models-cubic.3490/

TBH, I'm a little surprised at how many manufacturers sell models without information on how to get them flying. If it is helpful, Manuals for my models can be found here, and do have a lot of non-model-specific information to go by: https://www.aeroiccomposites.com/manuals.

Amicum verbum monens:
I wouldn't go to RC Groups, as that place is badly moderated and has a thriving population of unqualified armchair experts and those who find it amusing look down on anybody looking for help. This forum is easily the best and most friendly on the model glider scene, and that is because it IS well moderated, and its original intention was to stop bickering and stupidity. It works.

Let's get Aloft! :sneaky:

Cheers,

Doc.

well bless you for rescuing. My first 2 were rescues and this latest one I got her at 8 weeks old (after living with 2 rescues at separate times in life I thought i was ready for a puppy to raise... ohhh how wrong I was on that. HAH ! but we made it) and she made it to 13 years 7 months

I have always had rescues. They have been great.

Currently one of the staff members here has a puppy and he brings little Rambo into the office on most days. That is a lot of ENERGY to deal with, but he has been working on training the pup and he is becoming a great dog. But really makes me appreciate my adult dog rescues! LOL
