We skipped work on Monday! (sort of)

We had a unique opportunity pop up to fly some models for a video shoot.

I could not turn it down as it sounded like fun, but more importantly the personality we did this for had visited a very dear young friend prior to passing from cancer. That means a lot to me! I'm guessing a few of you can guess what this was for based on this one photo:

Jarron and Rafael flew their personal planes for this side project. This was all very short notice.

Typical studio work.. Hurry up and wait. But we had a lot of fun making ourselves at home. They have an awesome development shop, would have liked playing in there more. LOL

I think Jarron and Rafael like foam a little too much.

Jarron may have sunk to the bottom... never to be seen again? Not sure but I think he is still in there.. Rafael did you see Jarron later?

Sorry for the slow down in shipping, we have been cranking today to catch up.

The studio process was interesting, and they had some cool camera gear etc. . I now know why my old boss who would rent cars to movie studios charged a bunch of money. You will be on the set for ages. There were a couple of folks that used to work for Mythbusters and Adam Savage after the end of MB. We have done some radio prep with them in the past, I think that is why we got the call for this one.

Any guesses what this was for and the subject of the video? (Pretty sure some of you will nail it.)

Yep- that is the one.

Funny thing while we were filming on the little treadmill for close ups the director wanted us to keep the prop spinning. I told him we can't for exactly the reason you are trying to prove with the video. He didn't get it, the only thing we needed to overcome was the rolling resistance, so only very small inputs of throttle were needed. We ended up using some fishing line to hold the plane back so they could get their footage. It sort of bugs me that we did that as it makes the facts a bit more confusing.

Hot tip, if you are ever asked to do a conveyor challenge, use a plane with a nose wheel. Keeping a tail dragger on a wiggly conveyor is very challenging.

In the end both models damaged, one busted in 2. Flying in a small space around a lot of video crew and gear was not all that bad, keeping them on the treadmills was tough.
