Coming along nicely.

It will be ready for Sunset or we toss Jarron on the cliff and see if he flies. :devilish:

I have been looking around at other low aspect flying wings, like my Zupair Z1, and came across some old stuff on these vampir's. Be cool to see it in person this year.

regardless of his AR , GR , Wing Loading , G/L , P/W , (et al) , he will fly like an angel and show "unlimited vertical" :giggle:

Looking at the design; with all those weirdly located MAC, and CG positions I think it will fly like a gun platform, and probably wont know what a stall is.

Flaps on that design just might work as brakes, but not much as camber change, and I bet you'll need a lot of aileron differential.

Might need a bit of setting up but beware the adverse yaw and dial in some (probaby a lot) differential on those ailerons. Certainly wont be twitchy.

Doc..

Really cool plane. Cruises a long and has so many different looks with all of the crazy angles. A real attention getter.

p.s. First landing was the result of a midair with a little foamy. No damage, a few more feet and it would have kept flying.

Looks really cool. I was wondering if we were gonna get an update because i saw it flying in the back ground of a pic. I'll be interested to know how well the flaps worked.

regards,

Hank

Well everyone, as you can see from the pictures Wayne posted..IT FLIES! Here is a picture of me with the now restored and airworthy Vampir and a short video of a mock approach in 25 MPH wind.

As for how it flies, it is VERY docile and showed no bad habits, it flew like a big flying wing and cruised around nicely. I was even able to loop it as well. The maiden was done in 10 MPH wind, which was just enough to keep it in the air, until some guy with an Ahi mid-aired it! No damage though so no worries. It would have probably done better in the lighter lift that day if it were slightly less nose heavy, I'll have to take some woods metal out of the nose. Otherwise it flew well. The flaps work decently, they slow the Vampir down, especially with some down elevator input, which creates a sort of "crow" mix. This works due to the flaps being ahead of the CG.
