Vintage Robbe Vampir Restoration

Agreed. A plane I am rebuilding has some tired film on it, but will try to "restore" it as I really don't want to mess with pulling it and replacing it.

Alright, well first thing's first, the old covering has to go. Peeling the old covering off left nearly ALL of the old adhesive/color stuck to the wood. I had heard of a trick where you could iron laminate onto the old adhesive and when you ripped it off, it would take the color with it. I tried it and it worked pretty okay, but then Wayne had the idea of using packing tape, which didn't work. But when we heated the tape with a heat gun after application, the results were actually much better. Here is the end result.

At least you're not trying to put the covering back on FROM the mess on the right - haha

Aaaaand on with the new covering.

Have this. Lemme know if you need any info referenced.
Oh dude! my fuselage and wing joiners are really messed up on mine from the last owner and I am not looking forward to repairing it LOL Is there a way I could get a copy of the plans? Maybe buy the kit off you even?

I would think, a long with a copy of the plans a shot of the parts sheet with the fuse parts and a scale bar would help.

Here is a quick shot of the exploded view included. Not sure exactly what your looking for,ask away. Thought I could unpack and trace any parts you needed help with ,but can see all parts are still in lite vac plastic packing. The kit has obviously never been unpacked-I’ve never looked at it in detail before…

After some searching around, I managed to find a kit....In the UK. Call me crazy, but I grabbed it and it's now on the way. The plan is to use the parts and plans to build a new fuselage as the one I have is broken in half and I can't be bothered to put it back together, it's a total write off.

Are you going to use the kit parts as templets to make a replacement fuselage for your original aircraft? Maybe use this opportunity to enhance the design making the plywood blade joiners out of a more suitable modern material.

well yeah, I was hoping to use carbon fiber plate.

Just gotta do the nose block, then a bit more work with the razor plane and sanding and then it's time to sand, paint, repeat a few times.
Hoping to get this thing finished for Sunset this year!

@Jarron

Lucky you have one! Can't wait to see it fly!!!

I have been looking for a Vampir and a MPX Cortina for the last 4 years....🙃

I think we have 3 Vampir kits here. Took that many to get one back into the air. Another will be able to get into the air. Think the third is pretty well parted out..
