Veterans day sale!!!

Isn't the point of a sale to drive sales? I don't see how just lowering the price without a marketing push helps. It just looks to me to cut down on the already low profit margins. I love the lower prices But I also want my LHS to be around when I need it.

Well, I was going to bump out a newsletter, but I had a steady flow of customers all day and instead of asking them to leave I tried my best to help them out. In the end I barely managed to start up the sale before running out the door. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. Sometimes that is the way of small business. I never claimed to be the marketing madman, and I think you know that I really do not like to put a hard sale on my customers. Thus the total lack of newsletters.

Got an email notice of your latest sale.

Now I was slumming over at RCGoofs Slope section and never noticed your ad banner coming around in rotation.
Are you (Aloft Hobbies) no longer sponsoring the slope forum at RCGroups? (I honestly would think that this is a good place to save on your ad dollars, dumping RCG).

All the best,
Konrad

In my experience RCG is haunted by some very unsavoury characters including self admitted internet trolls - who are actually semi-supported by the group moderators.

Controversy, it seems, not only attracts these low life's, it also attracts more readership so the moderators allow a lot of it.

Many people - no I'll rephrase: TOO MANY people forget that flying toy airplanes is actually supposed to FUN.

It's simply a hobby and not something to attack people over, and to fight and squabble about, but something to share and enjoy, and instead of insulting and decrying the work of others, offer constructive criticism and help.

Thats my six 'pennorth as we Blimey Brits say.

Doc.

IMHO the slope and composite sections are the nicer parts of RCG. I had stayed away from rcg for a long time until i got into sloping and than realized that most of the people that reply and comment in those sections are pretty helpful and dont attack you for not knowing about something.

Like any group of people there are great ones and some that are lower than scum.

The issue with RCGroups is the management and lack of transparency in implementing their poorly defined policies, if in fact they have any!

All the best,
Konrad

I have been on the receiving and giving ends of moderation at RCGroups. I do feel they are pretty darn honest, but they also have a very large site to manage. It is not an easy job. They do have a section just to discuss the issues and debate what is fair or not. I think all can read it, but writing is limited to the mods and the original poster. A pretty good solution at showing the process, but not letting things spread so much.

Yes, we sponsor the slope and the radio classifieds that is the traffic we like. I'm not sure if we will continue or not. The slope section over at RC Groups is one of the best forums anywhere due to the folks that have or currently do use it. There is a wealth of knowledge buried in those pages, and in general slope pilots tend to be more balanced and happier.

I'd agree with Wayne for the first part, but not about the honesty or good intentions of the moderators.

When one German guy called one of my models:

"Fat like your wife"

I was so tired of it that I replied:

"Thats about what I'd expect"

My post got removed - his stayed, and no amount of protesting would change it.

But it's a while ago and I don't go there now, no point if you have a target painted on your back.

So, water under the bridge and I'm moving on to much more positive things.

Doc.

I just looked at some of the correspondence I had with the Jims. I can fully agree with Doc about the moderation. The moderation was aimed at protecting their ad base and upping their Google rating. There was no attempt at holding to the value of advancing the hobby like we were lead to think in the days of E-Zone. The "Night of the Long Knives" were all the community moderators were fired and replaced with Graham was indeed a black day for E-Zone and RCGroops.

I'm all for Jim trying to generate money from his site to fund his ill advised Russian Thunder. But he needed to put in place some workable polices and implement these in a transparent manor.

I recall all the puppet account RCGroups allowed Sal of North East Sailplane to hold. Sal use to orchestrate glowing reports about his product amongst these sock poppet accounts. RCGroups was full aware of this activity, but was fine as it helped with the Google hits and Sal was happily paying his sponsor (ad) bills. Everybody (the Jims and Sal) wins, but the hobby public looses.

I don't know about water under the bridge as the true nature of products and services can't be openly discussed and debated over at RCGoups.

All the best,
Konrad
