Using Cura on a Prusa i3 mk3

Wayne, In one of your posts you mentioned that you also have a Prusa i3 printer. I have purchased an ASK 14 from Planeprint and
the instructions come with the statement that it was on CURA. I too have the Prusa i3 mk 3. How do I go about using this Item from
Planeprint on this printer?

@RafaelAvila - Rafael is the guy that did all of the work with printing our Rise from the same company. Really am impressed with the work PlanePrint does on their designs and instructions. First off, grab a roll of this stuff:

We will be stocking this as soon as Polymaker can get it out to us, but for now Amazon seems the only source of it. Get the white while you can, it seems to go in and out of stock pretty quickly. We really like this filament, good mix of weight and strength. He may speck out the e-sun foaming PLA for light weight, and it for sure it lighter in weight, but also a lot weaker.

Rafael should respond here with the setting he used.

Follow the instructions on what parts should be printed in what materials. If you like, we can print out the TPU parts for you and then you don't have to deal with buying a roll of TPU. The good news is your printer does great with TPU, some brands can not. So this is something we are thinking of including in the flight packs we are developing for PlanePrint. (Yes, we will be offering flight packs for all of their models, these packs will have the motors, servos, carbon and as much of the little items as we can stock for them.) In fact love to work with you on your plane to help develop our flight pack for this plane as we have not yet done one for it. I can have @Jarron work on finding the right gear for the plane if you would like to report back what you think of our selection. Would be a great help, and can give you a nice discount for your efforts.

Looking forward to seeing your plane come together.

Rafael, sorry, your post I guess was coming in while I was posting the last response.

I am an old doq trying to learn new tricks and your post leaves me with more questions than answers.

im here to help tell me what is your questions.

Hey Rafael,

My first question is did you make any modifications to the Manual "Additional Settings"?
What is meant by "Wall Count 10", "Bottom Layers 1, Top Layers 3, and Adaptive Layers Checked"?
Did you use the RC Commponents listed in the Manual, and if you did, what did you use?
How can I obtain upgraded part STLs such as for the Landing Gear?
What will you be offering as a "Kit" of parts/materials from Aloft?

I am presently printing parts using a new "Silky" Silver PLA from Matterhackers.
They are looking Good! They almost look like machined Aluminum parts.

yes i did a lot manual changings on the settings as following the Suggestions on the website and some others i fell it better, try to use the settings i uploaded.
wall count is how many wall lines its will print i meant each line is 0.4 mm and 10 wall count will be 4mm thickness.
botton and top layers are important to how many layers you wanna in the top of the model and also in the botton of the model
adaptive layers make it print a little bit fasters depends what you printing
the upgraded parts you can purchase from the website
we are offering all the parts electronics parts ( servos, motors, esc ...) and carbon fiber stuffs

Tom,

Does that plane spec out the light weight filament or regular PLA? There is a large difference in the AUW for the plane when finished. We have not yet looked at that particular design.

Wayne,

It specs out regular PLA as the basic. It then also "recommends" LW-PLA for the tail surfaces.
It also specs out TPU for the hinges and wheels, both MAIN and Wing Tips.

It also specs out--
Motor========AXI 2814/12 V2
Prop=========9x4
BEC Controller===40-50 A
Receiver=======7, or better, 8 channel
Battery========3s Lipo 2400 - 3000 MaH
Servos========Hitec HS-40 4 pieces, and EMAX ES08 (A or D) 2 pieces. Analog or Digital.
Servoless Retraction Gear==small (32*25mm) 1 piece {I think it is a SKU-PZ-15090M for 3 kg aircraft
but it only shows a photo of it}

So far my untrimmed fuselage parts are coming out the same as the referance weights given.

The ASK 14 is one good looking cross between an airplane and a glider

Wing Span 2500mm / 99 inches
Length 1152mm / 45.3 inches
Flight Weight 1700 grams / 3.75 lbs (elevator and rudder from LW-PLA)

Tom

If you like, we should be able to handle the radio and motor gear for you. Can also print the TPU bits for you if you don't have any TPU. And heck, if the only bits of LW-PLA is for the tail, we could print those up too. No big deal. Save you from buying a couple of rolls of filament. Let us know and we can get that going for you.

Good evening,
I have no experience in 3 d printing yet, but have been reading this thread with interest. Based on a little research and in reading this thread, I decided to purchase a Prusa i3 printer and ordered and paid for one with estimated ship date of late January 2022. Unfortunately, DHL was the only shipper available on the Prusa website! I hope I actually get it.
I am going to start with a few canned files to make sure things are set up correctly. I would be very interested in purchasing the non PLA parts for the ASW 14 as I plan to make this my first aircraft that will be printed and love sailplanes.
Let me know when the additional parts are available and their cost and I will remit payment.
Thanks
Raymond Gaskins

Wayne,

After doing a little more research on the retract unit for the ASK 14, it appears to be a Hobby King { SKU 225000016 }
at $18.97 a pair. and it is OUT OF STOCK.

Tom

Aloft er al,
I posted on this thread on Monday evening about purchasing additional non PLA parts for the ASK 14 from Aloft, but no response this far. Is this thread a proper place to make such a request or should I request this information elsewhere?
Raymond Gaskins

Yes, we can do the rubber parts for you. Rene has given us permission to do that. :) We may need to get the STL files from you as we do not have a copy of the files for that plane just yet.
