Updating to last 1.4.17 ETHOS on X18

Hello everyone - my X18 is running ETHOS 1.4.8 with no issues with the Archer RSMini on my Goosky S1 and S2 micro helis and older OMP helis. I'm new to updating FrSky radios, but if I wanted to update to the last 1.4 version, 1.4.17, could I do that with ETHOS Suite? Would I need to update both bootloader and firmware?

I'm thinking that a minor version jump should allow me to use existing model files? I don't use telemetry.

I'm hesitant to jump major versions to 1.5 or 1.6, but if the newest OMP FBL telemetry only works with 1.6.x, then I might consider that.

Thanks in advance!

You are on a pretty old version of Ethos firmware. So there was a major update that requires Bootloader version 1.4.15 to be able to progress easily to newer versions of radio firmware. Once you are at this firmware version updates are completed almost automatically when using Ethos Suite on your PC.

I am at Ethos on my radio at 1.6.4 with no noticeable issues.

If you are in any doubt I believe Aloft does offer radio updates if you return your radio to them. Contact Wayne. Ethos Suite should also be updated as well currently at 1.7.0

Many thanks Henny for your reply, much appreciated. Quick follow-up question - would I have to update the RSMini receivers I have too, jumping from 1.4 to 1.6? Would ETHOS Suite handle that?

FRsky are doing a lot to keep developing receiver software, so it's a simple check to see what updates are available. Go to this site enter your receiver type and check to see what's available. https://www.frsky-rc.com/download/
The FRsky radio have 2 micro computer chips, one for the radio buttons sticks etc and one for the RF module. When you are updating your radio with Ethos Suite there is also an option to update the RF module which is currently at version 3.01. It is then advisable to update the receiver version to v3.0 to stay instep.

Suite also has a decent download center in it.

My understanding is Ethos Suite is now the reliable source for receiver firmwares.

One reason I like it more is that the FrSky website is really slow for me here in northern Ca. I thought maybe they were only hosting overseas, but it appears the servers I hit are in Oregon, so...I don't know.
Regardless that, I just find that Suite keeps getting more and more useful for all things FrSky :)

It could be that the FrSky website is behind AWS services, but that the actual server might be in China (adding much latency). From my location it also goes to the USA (which can be seen in a traceroute), even though I'm in Europe. The IP-address belongs to AWS (Amazon). But it could also be that FrSky doesn't spend much on the website causing it to be overloaded and slow. Difficult to tell.
