TW GR-8 Antenna Positioning Advice

Jim Miller

New User
Need some advice on positioning of TW GR-8 receiver antennas on a carbon fiber Phoenix DF F5J fuselage. The antenna that come on the receiver have these bigger diameter cylinders which I believe are for noise reduction and don't need to be outside the fuse. I attached a picture of how I've installed them; will this be good or should I do it differently?

I'd put the ferrite ground plane cylinders outside of the CF shell because it is part of the antenna's tuned circuit. I have a "VNA S-A-A-2 antenna tuner" and have done some experimentation. Sliding the cylinder up and down below the antenna's radiator portion on the outer coax is how the circuit is tuned. To my surprise, CF is almost like pure metal at 2.4 GHz.

Cheers!
