I fly with a transmitter tray and my new X20S transmitter did not fit well with the tray I was using, so I made my own. It is mostly 3D printed plastic with some carbon tubes, wood dowels, steel eye-bolts, and a screw/wingnut. I made 3 prototypes before being satisfied with the design. I printed the prototypes with PLA, but was worried about the parts deforming if the tray got hot (like when sitting in a car with windows closed), so I printed the final version in ABS (much harder to print without the part warping) for improved performance at higher temperatures. The main part of the tray was printed in 2 parts as it would not fit on the bed of my printer as one part.
The radio fits snuggly between the hand rests and 2 wood dowels fit into 2 of the screw hole pockets on the back of the radio to keep it in position. A clamp with some felt pads is tightened with a wing nut to hold the radio from lifting off the dowels. I have a XJT lite module installed and the tray has a recess to clear the module.
The same 4-point harness that I use with my other transmitter tray connects to the eye-bolts. The tray has holes to access to the I and J momentary bottoms on the back of the radio, but they are hard to reach around the hand rests. I don't fly DLG, so I really don't need them. I'm a pincher on the sticks and have some nerve issues in my hands that are exasperated when I try to hold the radio weight with my non-stick fingers - getting the X20S set up on a tray was essential before I could use the radio for flying.
