Tiny new glider outrunners coming soon from Dualsky! #F5K

Let's start off with a quick introduction to Dualsky.
We have been offering Dualsky motors and a few of their other products for a few years now and I have been very impressed with this company. Their designs are good and their quality control is very good. They are mostly known for their motors, but I have been very pleased with their speed controls and other product lines. In fact we will be offering more and more of their products in the future.
Dualsky is always looking at quality in the design and the manufacturing of their products. I like this a lot. I would consider them a premium brand, but they do not have the premium price, they manage to keep their prices down to a good sane level. I will admit that we mostly stock the smaller products from them, but they do make an electric motor for basically anything fixed wing from HUGE to tiny, from pure competition grade to affordable sport flying.

The tiny outrunners!
OK - onto the meat and potatoes. Dualsky has been making a number of really nice motors that work well for our gliders, but like most companies they didn't offer much that was below 28mm diameter, just too fat for some smaller gliders. I have been talking to motor companies for years about offering a smaller diameter high quality outrunner for our gliders. Finally a company listened! Dualsky replied to me back in April that they were working on their new 22EG series of motors. They would feature a 22mm outside diameter and come in three lengths, 6, 10 and 15. I suspect we will offer a couple of KV ranges for each of those lengths. They even sent along a CAD rendering for my feedback.

At this time the smaller motors were going to have 3mm shafts and the larger RES and F5K motor would have a 4MM shaft. They have done a few tricks with these motors, but will not discuss as I'm not sure they are to be shared at this time.

The biggest motors tips the scales around 43 grams and should offer 200 watts!

It is a little hard to grasp the size of these motors:

I am very excited to get these in. I know, I get excited about weird things...

Are these round shafts, no flat spots? I like the round shaft as it allows for collet hubs/spinners. If somebody by some odd chance wants a flat spot for say a grub screw they can add it.

Also I'd like to see much more of a chamfer on the mounting face. This is to allow for the epoxy radius of the firewall.

I also see no need for the retention collar or any retention feature with this style of firewall mounting. (Save some more weight).

Add to these the 25mm Z hub and we are starting to have a nice power system!

I don't think there is a flat on the shafts, just an optical issue on a prototype in the photo. Last I heard there are no cuts in the shafts at all. Think the 4mm shaft is actually a tube.

The collars have a use, and if you don't want it, they can be easily removed. Dualsky very much like collars on the shafts and I usually remove them.

A bit of a bait and switch. Tiny out runners are under 15 grams.

OK - I added the word glider to the title.

I know there have been tiny outrunners available, but most of them have been for quads or other special uses. These are designed just for our glider applications. I think this is the third series of motors from Dualsky that focus on glider applications in just the last year.

Please, just no snap ring groove!

With this mount configuration it is nice to allow the spinner to move aft and seat (butt up) against the fuselage to support the shaft on "landings".

Wayne,

They do look cool and beyond gliders, motors like this can be used in scale applications and other types of models. I have a NIB bridi Tercel, i'm thinking the smallest one and the 25mm dia spinner would be a good combo to make a small self lauching glider that is well under 8 oz.

That is a good question.. I know one of our locals put one in a SMALL thermal ship and reported it has more than enough power for him. It replaced another brand motor that was not enough power for him. :) Think the plane was the smaller Yellow Jacket. Otherwise don't know we have had much feedback yet.

I am having trouble finding these on the Aloft website. Could you post a link to these motors? I am particularly interested in the smaller ones with the 3.0 mm shaft sizes.
