The Arrow - A Sneak Peek at our new wing project.

Pretty cryptic message..., of which I have been accused of being and take pride in. From your last post, I would surmise you received raw parts.

Sorry - I have been working on a number of projects and have not updated this one.
I drew up a super simple fuselage in CAD and printed it out, mounted it on the wings and found I was way off for CG, we don't actually need much nose weight at all. So rather than battery upfront I drew a new fuselage where the battery can be below the wing rods. It is no work of art, the goal was make it FAST as we have very little time before Sunset, and dang it this plane is coming to Sunset this year! We will make up a nicer fuselage later.

We almost made her electric, but that would have slowed us down some, and again we can do that later.

Made up a simple wire harness last night. I have FrSky servos in her so debated making it an Fbus setup, but in the end I went simple and quick. 7mm servos powered by 18500 2S pack and a Frsky GR6 receiver. The battery can slide back and forth in the fuselage to dial in the CG. Speaking of CG, it is 270mm behind the leading edge of the wing, that is about 1" (25mm) behind the trailing edge. That is why she has a stringer in the rear of the fuselage. You can check CG on the stinger, and can launch from the stinger.

Some pictures.

This one gives you an idea of her size.

Looks like she will be under 20 ounces give or take. The fuselage is on the heavy side and is just simple PETG. Will bring a spare just in case we damage this one.

I drew up some control horns for her, and those are printed also. :) Already have the basic mixing setup, just a matter of mounting the servos, installing linkages and dialing in CG. Probably print up a simple servo tray for her.

I saw this in person the other day and it looks fantastic. A lot of times the color of a plane looks one way in the picture and completely different in real life. This is just as bright and vivid IRL. Really hoping this plane gets more than a single one made.

Earlier I reported 40 ounces estimated weight.. I don't know what we did wrong when we were adding up weights, but she looks closer to 19 ounces, just need to add the verticals. This makes a lot more sense. LOL

I was going to use balsa verticals, but we could use some tail weight so going to give light ply a try for the first flights.

She is pretty close to CG without the battery. I'll be switching batteries, was using rather heavy round 18500 cells, but switching over to 2S 800 2S 450 lipo will be better for CG.

Final AUW is now 20.48 ounces, 580.6 grams with CG at about 270mm from the leading edge. The AUW is a little high due to the 3D printed fuselage not being at all optimized, and heavy verticals. The fuselage does not need a forward nose at all, and the height could be greatly reduced. I might CAD up something a little nicer later today, might have time to pull this off.

Some photos, you can see how short the nose is on her, the battery is all the way in the rear of the fuselage to make CG. If I want to add any tail weight I need to add it to the tips. Not ideal.

Chased the CG on all flights. Think she flew 5 times give or take. Last was Saturday morning in very light lift, and she seemed to be doing pretty well on CG finally. For sure the 270mm mark is not correct, that is VERY tail heavy resulting in some unwanted loops, but could be recovered with some down elevator at just the right time. Should be some video of those out there.

I was very nervous flying the Arrow. I didn't want to mess her up.

The flaps were effective, and one landing was caught in hand by Alex. I do not recommend this, but seemed like a good idea at the time. LOL
