Taranis EXPO metric?

I'm confonrted by a setting recommendation for 20% EXPO. I suspect this is intended for a Spectrum transmitter. I can choose 20 on my X9D. The OpenTX2.1 manual I have seems silent on this question. I relaize that this is pretty arbitrary. What make sense to you guys?

Expo is a personal thing in my experience. While some like it, some hate it. Typically it will reduce throw near stick center.

Expo is great for getting a more linear response at the control surface from the rotary output of the servo. For must folks somewhere in the 10 to 20% seems to be the magic number.

You can also have reverse expo. This makes the model more sensitive initially.

Basically if your model feels to active with tiny inputs, add some expo. If your model is too numb with tiny stick movements, try a little negative expo. The same model with the same throws can have a very different feel just from the expo setting.

I found this discussion on the web, if you want to really get deep into it (posts toward the end are more meaningful). The question of "Is Spektrum expo different than OTX expo?" isn't specifically addressed - they use Futaba vs OTX, with just a mention of "JR". Apparently the exact formula used does vary between systems, and is not directly known (except for OTX). But, in a quick review of the graphs in the thread, it appears the the answer is "Not by a lot". So to Wayne's answer - Start with what the brand recommends, you won't be wildly different. Then tune to your liking.

Further research reveals that althouigh picking a number for EXPO in the Taranis itself does not identify whether it is a percentage - sy 20%, if you do it in OpenTX, when you save the number it shows as a percentage.

We know the expo formula exactly in OpenTX, because it's open source.
The expo formula in Spektrum radio is speculation.

Exponential Primer

I'm sure most of you have forgotten more than I know, but I'm fumbling through all this stuff successfully so far. I set my controls to a 20% exponential. Not for any clear reason. Just because it seems like a reasonable amount. I'd actually like to know what are more or less agreed upon...
