Sunset - Day Run - August 23, 2025

Red - Let us know pretty soon if you are coming and want to transfer the CNC. Will take some logistics for us to get it going and loaded into a vehicle.
Waiting on a buddy to confirm, should know today. Not looking promising at this point however.

No worries. Totally understand. Maybe we can meet halfway someday? Find some flying event as an excuse? I've been threatening to take the boys to Weldon.

The wind forcast looks perfect.

Paul

Friday Sunset Beach wind report. I arrived at 12:30 and left at 3:00. The forecast was for something around 8 to 10 mph - depending on the forecast you were looking at.

The last few months the wind has always been 4 to 6 mph more that forecasted. Today was no exception, at 12:30 when I arrived, we had 10 to 12 and by 2:00 it was a steady 16 plus.

Let’s hope the wind gods are kind to us tomorrow 😊

Paul

Nice, mellow day at Sunset! Got there right before noon as the fog started to move away. Wind from single digits to maybe 15mph a little later. Nice mix of planes with a dozen or so pilots.

Ollie's 3D printed plane was well represented by the Aloft crew with 4 flying examples - all flying REALLY well, with Wayne passing the stick to others for a spin. @OribaSJ88 now Alex want to make one and fly it! 🤣

Thanks to everyone that came out on Saturday! We had a blast! The Kids are on me now... They're saying; WE GOTTA GO MORE OFTEN!!! LOL
The weather was beautiful. It was nice to see friends that we don't get to see often.
And the dinner at the end was well received!
Thanks to Paul for joining us weirdos !

So what is the next trip? I have not had a proper day at Goat Rock yet.
You know you have made it in the slope world when you have had a:

"Proper day at goat rock..."

Hoofing it up the slope with your Goat-2 model, butting into old friends, horning in on the model banter, milking the lift...Loads of Goatery to be had!

I'm only jealous, you lucky buggers!:love:

Doc.

OFB Jim Harrigan and I took a trip up the PCH from Watsonville to Russian River in 2007.
Fort Ord, Sunset, Davenport, and Goat Rock State Park were memorable flying spots on the trip.
In those days for travel we relied on EPP foam: Dave Sanders Schweizer 1-26 and Pat Bowman Comanche.
I agree that Goat Rock is a worthy destination.

Ha, yeah it was crazy windy that day. I didnt have many flights on the bluto on that day and was a little scared of how windy it was at the top. Now after that 45-50mph day at sunset i would try it. I did do my normal thing though, launch before figuring out where i should land :)

It is a little weird flying at that site. I have been going to goat rock for 40 years. Grew up in santa rosa and that was a place our family would always go hang out. Now going to it and doing something new.
