Sunset build thread for everyone

@Konrad not yet, but i think my "maiden" will probably be a hand toss on the grass for now. If the rain will ever stop. I lost my one spot i would slope up here in clearlake. But in a few weeks we are celebrating our 25th anniversary and will be hitting LA/San diego so i may take it with me at that time. I am hoping to get to fly Long Beach, Kite Hill Daves beach, Torry Pines, and Pacific Beach. Maybe not all of them but they are on my todo list.

This thread is for everyone! Please post what you are working on or bringing for Sunset 2023

I’m a newbie. I plan to bring an Ahi, a Weasel and maybe (just maybe) a Phoenix 2000.

Nearly a perfect mix. You might consider adding a foamy combat wing....it gets kinda crazy and they are hours of durable fun.

What do you recommend for a foamy combat wing?
These are awesome, fly great and easy to build.

Judging by the amount of mid air collisions, the giant wing thing (robbe vampir) won't be there lol I'm going to try to bring only foam. I will be bringing a Carbon Falcon though XD

Foam planes include:

  • Hawkie
  • F-SST
  • Mini Solius
  • PSS Mig-3
  • "PSS" Gee Bee Model Y
  • Pointy boi
  • Some other parkflyer thing I decide to bring literally minutes before we leave for Sunset.
And a ton of lead.

The only have a single I beam spar in the center away from the leading edge and are wrapped in iron on laminate, so they can really take a beating. I dont know if you have used EPP before but it does not crush. You can jump on it, hit with a hammer as hard as you want. It can tear, but it is easily glued back together. Keep some White gorilla glue or contact style cement on hand and you can have the plane back in the air in 15 minutes. Put some full size metal gear servos in them and they are pretty much indestructible.

Oh yes, we hope to get a bunch of Mini Solius airframes in prior to Sunset. This would be a great fleet bird for everyone! I seriously have way too much fun with mine. Hopefully Multiplex will get the order filled in time.

Are these in production? I think Jarron has one that is way up there on the fun scale. And he has an RC conversion for it.

It is in line with the Sunset foam vibe!

Yes, these are a very small free flight glider, but I'd argue that they make a much better RC plane than the Lidle.

Usually a free flight conversion still has a lot of "free flight" habits in the finished plane. The Mini Solius seems to fly great as both an RC conversion but also as a free flight.

We got a case of these in a while back and most were built up by the staff and some local customers long before they had a chance to be put up on the site. Then we culd not get more of the white versions. Well, Mr Multiplex has stepped up for us and ordered a bunch of the white ones a month or so ago. I do hope we will get them in before the build season is over. The RC conversion takes about 1 night. The end result is the perfect silly and fun plan for Sunset. Can't be hurt, great fun for silly combat, flies in light to rather heavy conditions, etc. And they are cheap and tiny. Good travel planes too.

Looks fun
