Sunset build thread for everyone

This thread is for everyone! Please post what you are working on or bringing for Sunset 2023

I officially started on my build list for Sunset today. I've got 4 months to knock a few out!

First up is to repair my MiniSR that I built for last year, but didn't get to fly. One aileron torque rod is loose inside the aileron, so I need to cut that out and fix it. Also, the clearcoat on the wing wrinkled some paint which pissed me off. So quick fix and if I'm lucky blend the color and re-clear the wing.😫

Next up is a TFLG PSS Tucano for my son Ryan. We have the light end of the spectrum covered with Ahi's and a few other foam and combat planes, he needs something to fly when it's howling. This will likely be 50-60 oz. when done, so a sled.

Then it's rehab a 70's racer called the Ridge Runner designed by Boeing engineer Dave Katagiri. This is a 100" version (original was 72" IIRC) built for a dear friend who passed away some years ago. Still has old school Kraft radio gear in it! So a facelift with modern gear and it will be good to go. A friend is baby sitting this one for me up in NorCal, so I need to get my hands on it soonish.

After that I've got a few to choose from in the build pile. I'll likely only get one or maybe two of these done if I'm lucky.

* Scratch built VTPR plane, Falcon 880 fuse, foam wings at tail. I REALLY want to get this one done, so it's top of the list. The rest are no particular order.
* Daryl Perkins Whip 60" racer, glass fuse, bagged carbon wings and balsa tails, but I may bag carbon over foam tails too.
*Hobie Hawk Rehab
* Gerry Arana Grand Boss 80" racer. Glass fuse & drawings, scratch the rest.
*Gulp 60" - foam DS/Acro wing
* BPLR Madslide 2021 - all EPP pattern plane like foam aerobat. 100% guesstimated scratch build, no kit, plans or drawings exist. I have a few screen grabs to scale. I will CNC hotwire most of it
*Aloft Hobbies Sequoia 2M all arounder. Dead flap servo, have one but have lost interest. May be available for sale.
*Quicksilver low wing aerobat. Glass fuse, wings are sheeted.
*Grouper 60" all wood aerobat of my own design:alien:

Oh and I'm developing a new little bigger micro nostalgia glider that will be available in kit form from Aloft.:alien:

....and a top secret 3M moldy if it makes it in time. 😎 Phew......I think that's enough.

LOVE that Falcon fuselage, Red.

It looks like I designed it...hehehe. :love::love::love:

Yeah I'm a bit ambitious, but when I'm motivated I really make good progress! I for sure won't get that list done, I'm shooting for 1 or 2 from the list in addition to the other 3. I like my chances. ;)

Holy Crap!! that Madslide is crazy!!

I need to rehab some of my stuff from last year. LOL

I have a vintage Sagitta with the vintage radio system I really want to get into the air. Had it last year but lost the wing joiner. :(

I like to have a silly plane each year, and this year I hope to have a special version of the SST flying wing to fill this position.

The following will be prototypes or production models we will be flying:
Carbon Falcon - These are fabric based flying wing, much like a kite and use wing warping.
Boomerang - A remake of the classic EPP flying wing. Wonderful planes! Maybe we will kit these in the future.
New VTPR model from Aloft - This one has a twist..

Think Jarron will have his giant vintage flying wing thing.. Maybe Chris will have his flying school bus.

I should probably dust off an old Zulu and bring it out, they are getting rare these days.

Ugghh - I keep saying I bring too many planes to these events and I need to limit myself to just 3 or 4.

Forgot about my Seagull. Have to finish that for sure!
You and me both. But like Wayne has said don't finish it too soon, they aren't likely to survive for long. I wonder if we can try for a flock of seagulls. Mine will be the noisy one:rolleyes:o_O

We gave out a lot of the kits last year for we could have a flock at Sunset and think 3 or 4 of them were damaged prior to Sunset. One even survived a mid air with light damage. Think we only had 2 or 3 in the air at a given time last year.

I have yet to fly my baby version. :)

Are you counting the one that mid aired with my micro Nexus 900? That would have been a little more than an bug splat. I think that Seagull did go down as the wing of my Nexus was stuck in the LE of the seagull.

I think that may have been Jarron's??

I was talking about the gulls we gave out to some of our customer's prior to the event so they could build them and join the flock. I think I tried to give you one of those.. :O

I don't know who I mid-aired with. It wasn't Jarron. And yes you gave me this EDF one about 3 weeks ahead of the event, after coming to the conclusion that the EDF ones SUCKED. You didn't want to subject the EDF upon your other customer base, even as a "gift/curse".;) It is that this was given to me by Aloft that I feel I need to try to get this one flyable for Sunset 23.

Or are you talking about the horse trading on the Nexus 900. That is another I'll try to get repaired for sunset 23. I owe you some flight time on that bird.

Nexus - :)

Oh yeah, you had the EDF. Do you still have it? If so you just need the fuse parts for the glider.

Im probably missing a few but:

Things to finish:

If i have time: Micro Runt, Mini Damnit. Whatever @Hawaii Sloper buys and sends to me in time :)
Oh and Ted Torpin kindly gifted me a Dreamcatcher Toucan T60R kit. If that gets here in time that will probably jump up to the top of my build list as its crazy looking.
heres an example build from rcgroups:

And im not sure what, but something is getting this pan/tilt DJI HD fpv setup. Meant to have it ready last year but didnt have time. Will be connected to its own Radio so i can "give rides" to people while i fly. It can look 90 degrees left and 180 back to the right. Will record 720p view back at the goggles.

Yes, I have the Seagull EDF. And as it is a problem child I want to see if I can get it to fly. Both as a glider and flat land EDF. Seems like the designer has a fuselage tube to mask the eflux from the bottom of the stab. So I want to try that tube.
