We had a customer with a Special Edition Taranis ask about using the X9E stubby antenna instead of the removable 2db antenna that comes stock on that radio. Why? The radio pretty much requires you to remove the antenna each time to store it in the travel case. Gets kind of annoying. (Note: We no longer stock the Special Edition radios with the removable antennas, we find that the normal antenna works best, and too many people were having issues with the removable antennas.)
So we tried it out the X9E stubby antenna in the stock location:

I have to say I like the looks. Now onto the testing. As expected, this antenna worked fine with one exception, it has a dead zone where the antenna is pointing. During a quick range test we found it comparable to the stock antenna, but if the antenna is pointing at the receiver it suffered. This is true of most any antenna design, the best radiation is off the sides, not the ends. This is why the stock antenna folds over to the side. A 90 degree RP adapter could be used to fix this orientation, but probably better over to convert to the normal FrSky 2DB antenna. That is what we prefer.
Thought we would share.
p.s. One of the guys here at the shop uses the stubby antenna for a Spektrum module on the back of his radio and he has been pleased with that for his foamies.
