I had sent a 50% starfire cut out of EPP to @Hawaii Sloper . Figured i would start a spot for posts on it.

About 30 minutes work so far. It will be fun getting everything in place. Using an Archer R4, Emax 9052 metal gear servos and the Tattu 1S 500 from Aloft.

I made my own control horns from plastic card stock. The hinges are E6000. Just like the foamtac version. They work ridiculously well for this kind of plane.

the strapping tape is 2” cut in half on top and one full piece on the bottom. I also put a 4mm x 1mm 4” long carbon flat spar in between the RX and battery to stiffen it up. Proportional to size, it’s reasonably stiff.

The stabs are 3mm coroplast (edit* 2mm) that Nate laser cut for me. @thenated0g made some 3D printed inserts for the stabs. They work pretty well. The stab should stay put except in a hard landing. It will be easy to remove them and put in my luggage to travel with. 😎

So I only have the top film left to put on. The CG comes in at 92mm with about 15g of lead in the nose.
Nate and I were guessing at the all up weight and figured about 100g. Right now it is 93g. I think with top film it will be closer to 105g.
Last year at Sunset it was Hawkies that we flew. This year it was the Mini Solius. Next year Nate and I said it would be cool if everyone was flying one of these😁. If it flies anything like the 48”version it will be awesome!

The 3mm coroplast is total overkill, isn't it? See if you can track down some 2mm stuff. Or better yet, I would entertain printing some for you with our new nylon filament. Pretty sure they would be indestructible and cleaner. :)Hmmm... Night have to give that a try for the BAM BAM.
 
This may totally work as @Hawaii Sloper is using it but my only concern, since its a U shape, not a totally connected slot, is that as the wing deforms/twists in the air that slot could open up more enough to loosen it. But if that does happen than a little piece of tape next time should hold it in place for sure.

I'm going to check out making some fins and a mount for the Bam Bam and see how it goes. We did a sample battery tray for the Carbon Falcon and could not break the stuff with our hands. All other tests with a wide range of materials could be snapped by hand. The bad news is the filament is not exactly cheap.

I'd be interested in printing a full glider with key areas using this Filament. Things like fuselage bottoms and leading edges.
