Hi Stephane,
I don't think I will need a return, but that certainly is an option. I am making some new cams, I'll have more pics soon.
Hi Stephane,
how much torque on the servo for your xx" project?Hey All,
Back working on this one. The MadStab mechanism is what I have been focused on. I have the cam system working in prototype form. I'm getting about 155 degrees of travel now, but I would like closer to 180 degrees. There is some flex and slip, but it shows enough promise that I feel comfortable putting in the effort now.
Wings are progressing as well. I scavenged a carbon joiner and sockets from a EFlite Carbon Cub. I have them dry fit in the cores, need to make some false ribs to capture each end, then I can sheet them.

That's a great idea Stefane, I'll consider it.Nice one Red!
You're right you should get at least 170°. Or if you can't, focus only on upper direction to get +90°. Because below 85°, you won't flip.
How do you plan to ensure high tension in the cables? - I like very much the trolley system I use on the Svolazzo, from François Cahour.
I'm using a JR8717 servo which is 160+ in/oz. Not sure I need that much but overkill is good.how much torque on the servo for your xx" project?
do @Stephane know what the new flight regimes at >90°angle are good for. I read your VTPR reports and tips, only spare information what the plane is capable of with that amount of deflection. Firstly it can flip positive and negative (depends on the aerofoil) and... imagine — level flight, 1/4 roll to knife edge, flip and 1/4 roll back to level — lost me?
Hey Red! Is that a servo tester in the second picture? if so what kind is it? I've been wanting to get a good quality tester but there seem to be very few available.A little more progress. I’ve replaced the Delrin bushings with ball bearings. The fit was good before, it’s excellent now! I’ve played with the cam ratios and am getting a full 180 degrees. I need to change out the pull pull cables to something steel core for less stretch, but this is the final configuration. I added a carbon tube below and ahead of the stab pivot to act as a
guide for the cables too. Now with the stab cam is rotated 50 degrees with the elevators neutral, I get perfect geometry.
I laser cut some ply root and false ribs to capture the wing tube and got that all fit and bonded. Almost time to sheet the wings after I cut servo pockets and run extension wire. It’s a pretty straight forward build from here I think.
Yes, the one from Hitec. Cycles and programs too which can be handy.Hey Red! Is that a servo tester in the second picture? if so what kind is it? I've been wanting to get a good quality tester but there seem to be very few available.
This is one I've been looking at: toolkitrc-st8-advanced-multi-servo-testerYes, the one from Hitec. Cycles and programs too which can be handy.
Yeah I'm sure that would work just fine. I use mine on every build. Much easy top center servos, test throws etc. instead of hooking all the radio up. Invaluable IMHO.This is one I've been looking at: toolkitrc-st8-advanced-multi-servo-tester
has way more features than I need but it seems like it would be high quality.
I'd probably want to see the manual before I bought one.
How well does it work with other brand servos? seems like it is aimed at Hitech servos.Yeah I'm sure that would work just fine. I use mine on every build. Much easy top center servos, test throws etc. instead of hooking all the radio up. Invaluable IMHO.
They are all universal, servo brand doesn't matter. How well does it work with other brand servos? seems like it is aimed at Hitech servos.
I have one of the basic ones and that has worked ok for me also. I like the idea of being able to program the center a lot. It would just take some of the frustration out of mechanical and radio setup.Honestly some of the old name brand units are the best if you can find one.
We use the little el-cheapo units that we sell at aloft, and those are fine too. I like that they are small and cheap. We have used ours so much that we ended up 3D printing little hard cases for them.
I'd actually prefer one that defaults to centered, but not a big deal. For my first 30 years in the hobby I used my radio to center.
This one works well. Not too spendy and sold by an up and coming R/C outfit.I have one of the basic ones and that has worked ok for me also. I like the idea of being able to program the center a lot. It would just take some of the frustration out of mechanical and radio setup.
