Software experiences?

What softwares are yall using on your DIY cutters?

GRBL Hotwire seems to work fine on my RAMPS based controller .

However, getting some weird things I am amost certain is related to my GCODE generator.

I am using Jedicut, I am not sure if I am missing a setting some where. Software appears to be basically end of development. Most docs are in French.

There was a great French software, but sadly the developer passed away and don't think anyone took it over. That was probably the best stuff, but it is now very old, and really only supported a parallel port, and there was a hack to get it to do some USB. Beyond that I could not tell you much about French options. If you run across the old software and some good hardware for one of those with the heat compensation, grab it! It was very good, especially for super thin foam cuts like DLG tails.

We also used Devwing on our most recent cutter and it works well.

When i first started out i tried to use a few different free design/cam software but i had nothing but problems. Maybe i didnt put in enough time to figure them out. DevwingFoam has been great. I had typed out a bunch of negative stuff about the developer. Lets just say i dont like him very much and dont ever go to the official forums anymore. But the software is great.

I have the other software dev does for cutting 2d shapes as well.

If i ever do have to purchase it again i will purchase the physical usb key version of the license so i can transfer it to other pcs in case my cam pc dies.

I remember GMFC leaving some in a lurch when the developer passed away. I thought it had been purchased by someone else.

GRBLGru is promising, but seems to have some bugs.

Have you checked out Rckeith from uk? He sometimes reviews software for cutting:

Yes. Rather hear hands on opinions about things.

GMFC - That's the one. It was pretty darn nice, but needed to be updated for modern computers. :( He was an outstanding guy that helped a lot of people back in the day. Was sad when I found out years later of his passing. He did a lot for the RC foam cutting community.

Always the way it is, I suppose.

Interestingly enough, working on some tooling I acquired not too long ago and I need to cut some cores. Of course the plans and parts don't match. It would have been fantastic to ask the designer which was correct. Unfortunately, he thermaled away into greener pastures last year.

I did cut some parts from his templates on my FeatherCut. What a beautiful piece of engineering.
