I just busted out a new kit called the Slow Stick Sport. It's wing core is hot wire cut EPS with some balsa and thin ply additions. The fuse is 1/4" dowels and the tail feathers are 1/16" balsa, with it and the wing covered in 1.5 mil "not mm" clear Doculam. I kept the bottom, stock layer of the eps in tact for amusement and also visual orientation in the air.
I've been hot wire cutting planes for 20 years, adding the laser cutter to cut out the forms required me thinking out of the box to remove the plastic covering on the laminate so the laser could cut through it to create them and it took quite a few passes to make happen. Bow is nicrome for the wire, generic car battery charger for the power upon, a bit over 4' in length, doing a smaller one for the smaller parts next upon the next I have dialed in with another plane and world upon.
Tutorial/graphic shows how the process works and to build your own hot wire cutter too.
