Slope MOMs Racing - Lets get this going!

can we do a meeting someday at the mussel rock for a day fly? just for fun? also check the area and if its possible for the event.
Sounds like a good plan to me.

Tom M reports that June 20th does not work for him, the rest are fine.

If you’re planning on such a trip, check out Thornton at the same time—whether you choose to fly there or not. They aren’t far from one another. F3F groups have chosen Thornton for events in the past but I’m unaware of ever using Muscle Rock. Best to make an informed decision

Post-crash plane recovery at Muscle Rock is much less viable than it is at Thorton.

I know that these planes are to be considered more expendable than normal, but if this is a "rubbing is racing" type of event, the ability to recover downed gear might be something to consider.

Unfortunately two bags of failed prints haha was doing some quality control. I wasn't happy with the quality so i trash some parts

After that I have a lot great quality parts done already
Fuselages mostly done
Starting to print the wings now

Those are all good points @zeo0nie1. The pros and cons of easy as I remember…
Thornton
(+) Better slope for racing. Longish and relatively level cliff edge
(+) Better landing area in general
(+) Better lift conditions when wind blows (my personal 2 cents)
(-) Difficult access from parking area
Muscle Rock (by my own admission, I'm not the most familiar with this site)
(+) Better access from parking area
(-) Not a very generous area for landing--unless flying north of parking area (uncommon)
(-) Limited possibility of recovery down the cliff--i.e., from a midair. Likely depends on where course is setup (?)

This is all from a bit distant memory and a scouting trip is worthwhile for those with a vested interest. What are the essential priorities? Ease of access may be a driving factor depending on those attending. None of us are getting any younger 😇 .

We can pick another date, this is pretty short notice, so rolling it back is not an issue.

Please let us know what looks good if the above dates aren't a good match for you.

Thanks!
Thornton is pretty easy for me (30 min by car).

I don't know what time of day you guys usually fly. I usually do my flying early in the AM. However, I'll still come out at other times for these events. Most weekends are generally good, and could even make something happen on a Thur afternoon (Thursdays in general are workable for me).

Sounds like there are a few beginners in the group (like me) so maybe if some of you experienced guys are willing, we can do some smaller practice events before getting into a 'real' race day.

Anyway I'm flexible and looking forward to joining you all.

I went to Bedwell Bayfront park on Thur for some practice and it was terrible. No fun at all. I've had more fun on a flat field just tossing my Alula and taking my 20 seconds of flight time. At least the air was clean.

The wind usually doesn't pick up until noon at the earliest.

I'll go check the northern route at Thorton today. There's also Coyote Hills? Never been but seems like a good spot.

100% interested in smaller events.

I think we are looking at heading out to Muscle/Thorton on Sunday afternoon.

I'm thinking Coyote may be the second race location? The goal is to move the races to different venues. We all get to fly new slopes that way, or slopes we rarely visit. Maybe up near Goat Rock for race 3? Nathan has that amazing looking spot up North. That might be a really fun one.

The northern approach is pretty easy and leads to a nice long cliff. I should have come this way earlier. If you can get to the launch site at Sunset, I think you can do this.

We have put the Slingshot's up on the website. Sell price is $74. That is no profit, Rafael is doing these on his own time and machines, he usually bills out his printing work, but he really wants to see this race series go. This covers his expenses to produce them, that is all.

You will not find them on the site, you must click this link:

You are welcome to pick them up at the shop, or we can ship them out.

about that "recoverability" 😅

honestly this was probably the only way it came home in one piece for me today, even with the generous LZ here.

Thanks for the pix. That’s sorta what I remember 🤔. Looks like they’ve groomed a nice trail down to flying area. In that respect, better than last time I was there.
