Slope MOMs Racing - Lets get this going!

oh nice to talk to you again :D, thank you for the offer. i let you know if i need some help, at moment i just need more PETG HF White hahaha (order Placed already)
All white, eh, Rafael? I'd suggest the wing and tail feathers in a different color(s). Hopefully that doesn't complicate "volume production" unnecessarily" (easy for me to say!). Also, it won't be long, with three or four nearly identical models in a race, before a pilot mistakes which one he's flaying!! It might give the flaggers some issues, too. It would be nice if there were enough variations that it's relatively rare that two identical models fly in a round. Red, orange, even dark blue, are all pretty visible. PETG has a lot of nice colors depending on your supplier of PETG.

I never paint my printed planes, but to each his own. Does PETG have good paint adhesion?

The sailplane is small. It disappears easily. Sadly there's no such thing as contrasting upper and lower surfaces as is so common in molded designs. I usually print 3-4 colors for a given model but there's no need to go as crazy as the model below.

"For now, the entire model will be fully 3D printed in white PETG"

Can these gliders be covered with Flying Film or Painted? It would add some color making it easier to keep track of your glider. This should allow for a smooth air flow over the wings and tail, making it just a bit faster than the other guy ...

Spray paint it for better results, never use any heat around it hahaha so no flying film

Hi all, new guy here (new to sloping, experienced otherwise). Had my first trip to sunset this year and met a few of you. I live in South Bay so all these flying sites are pretty doable for me.

Please sign me up for 2 airframes if possible. If I am allowed to place a request for another buddy I would add 2 more. We are all experienced local pilots but recently discovered the magic of slope soaring for the first time.

Thanks!
Smirk

What is the Slingshot’s wing span, area and average flying weight?

PS - do you have my planes finished yet 🛸

I don't have mine handy, but think it is about 48" wingspan. They come in at a rather flyable weight/wing loading, but don't have those numbers handy either. I have flet no need to ballast up, and she still flies in moderate lift. She will not fly in light lift.

One pilot here feels she is too quick, I have been telling him to fly with some flap until he is comfortable. He has flown quicker models.

Too quick for a racer?

Sunset or Los Banos.

I would not recommend Tick due to limited parking, heavy traffic and high visibility. A race could jeopordize this fragile site.
You're absolutely right. I was imagining a few guys doing some MoM and if it was larger it would be an issue. Good looking out, I don't want the site getting blown out.

Hey Red - You need to get an event going in your neck of the woods. I don't think you want to be coming up here to race. :)

Why not? I've had worse times haha. Once planes are in hand I'll get the first on going at Grass.

I'm working on the OC group too. They should get something going, they actually have some history with these races years ago before I moved north. They have a several good slopes that would work really well.

If you do end up coming this way, you can crash in our guest room. That is a long drive for you.

No one else need the slingshot? Ill close the order requests at the end of the week, so if you know someone who's want to race, telle him to request it before we close the orders.
