I will try to attend as well. Need to maiden my Slingshot. Haven't started my backup. It is available if someone needs one.
Flew the slingshot, no ballast, ripping fast, easy landing!
Also flew Jart M70, and M60 fully ballasted! It was a good day with Aaron, Bruce, Tony and Dave having fun too!
Nor Cal Slope Soarers will host a 60” MoM race on Saturday, September 26.
Open to everyone, and a good way to check out our great flying site.
AMA membership/insurance is required at this venue (The SLoT, near Benicia).
We’ll plan on running this as ‘any model under 60’, rather than a one design event. I don’t want to do anything that would limit registration. But, if there are enough folks with the printed models,ba separate class would be considered.

The forecast for tomorrow looks pretty decent. We should be able to have a practice session at Thornton Beach without any problem. Direction should be relatively perpendicular to the face of the cliff, too.

I cant make it today
We had a pretty productive practice session today at Thornton. The conditions were nearly ideal for the numerous maidens that happened today. There were close to 10 Slingshots present and, other than a minor accident, there were no airframes to repair after the event. That's a success in anybody's book! There was even a little friendly MoM racing without flaggers. There were a few close calls, but no carnage resulted. One thing of note was the presence of many paragliders and hang gliders. They were in abundance today and we're going to have to have a strategy for dealing with them as we race.
Proposed race date: I'd like go suggest next Sunday, July 12th, for the event. I know of one person who won't be able to attend on Saturday. Also, it'll give people one last chance for any last minute maiden flights before the event if required.
Equipment for the event:
- Flags: I can provide. They are the old fashioned kind, just in case there are no lights available
- Walkie talkies: I can provide
- Bull horn: I can provide & countdown timers audio
- Scoring system & pilot pairing for races: Is there a solution?
- What else do we need for the event?

I heard from Konrad that things went well and reported he saw a lot of good racing turns being performed.
He also shares that the Slingshot responds well to camber changes (trailing edge) when limited to a little less than 2mm. For thermal he did the same, but found it added a good bit of drag so can be a bit counter productive. (I felt the same in my practice flying with a thermal mode, but may have had 3mm making it even worse.) This is a very responsive airfoil, so not too surprised by this.
So pleased to hear of the good turnout and excellent lift direction.
I'll second the plan for the racing being held this coming Sunday.
