Signup: Inaugural Bringing Back Man-on-Man Slope Racing Event

All,

We are working on the location for the next event. There are two candidates, one in NorCal and one in SoCal. The date is likely late August. How many of you NorCal guys are willing to come south? How many SoCal guys will go (further but cooler!) north?

The two locations are Grass Mountain and the SLoT in Benicia. The NCSS club has graciously ok'd a Saturday event date late August or early September. For logistical reasons late August is more attractive. Since time at the SLoT is limited, I'm leaning there for the next race, but interested to hear from everyone else. We can fly at Grass year round.

I'd think they will both be about the same temperature.

I was considering going to Grass mostly because I have never flown there.

I'd really like to push NCSS to start using Davenport again.

I'd also like to see Sunset as a venue. That might be a good one for the hot months depending on what fog does in that area in the summer months. I suspect it is OK but have not been there in a summer month.

I do think it would be best to have north and south events, and some combined events now and then. I highly recommend we chat with Tom R. down in Orange County and get the OC pilots involved. Maybe a race in Orange County to get them fired up. (Ortega is a pretty good location for the races with slopes that hit the common wind directions.) They are a strong group and were the core of the Speedo races. Same with LA/Redondo/Torrance/PV/Long Beach crews. (I'd hope we could get these groups to Grass Mtn.)

Agree on all accounts, and for sure will be bringing races down here as well. For now I'm focused on the next one, and the opportunity at the SLoT.

I’m not familiar with the SLoT. Why is it not a year round place like GM?

I second all of what Wayne said especially in regards to getting more of the SoCal or OCSS group involved. I think having the location yoyo back and forth from NoCal'ish to SoCal'ish would go a long ways in facilitating that. I did mention the Banos races and my intention of going while at Tom R’s build night on 7/3 but I think Banos being a known entity (i.e. heat, 5-6hr drive, heat, unpredictable wind, and heat) had a bit to do with the lack of interest at least in that event.

By no means let my schedule dictate anything, but just a heads up that I'll be a for sure no go on either the 8/9 or 8/16 weekends.

SLoT is managed by the Solano Land Trust. There is (I think) a butterfly migration period that limits access. It offers amazing conditions, pretty unique in that area.
