Inaugural Bringing Back Man-on-Man Racing: R.O.D. Slope Racing Event
  • Where: Los Banos Reservoir
  • When: July 12, 2025 (Saturday), Pilots Meeting 10:30 am.
  • Who: Any current, former or would-be slope racers and anyone just wanting to see and learn more about the racing class
  • Current AMA membership required
  • Contest Directors: Red and Ollie
We want to invite anyone and everyone to the first of hopefully many MOM slope races. Since this is the kickoff event and we're still trying to gauge interest, there are only two simple rules:
  1. Have fun!
  2. Bring whatever and just show up and run the pylons!
In the long run, we'll try to get to some kind of 60" class (ODR?) and a more advanced (unlimited?) class. In the mean time and for this race, bring whatcha got! If you have a 60" ODR racer, that's great (y). If it's a 60" molded racer, check✅. If you wanna smoke the competition with an 3m F3F beast, bring it🙃!

Pilot-Caller-Flagger-Helper:
All pilots are required to help run the event and take turns at least once each round. This most likely means you will be asked to judge a pylon, be a flagger, record scores, or whatever else the CD may require to operate the race. This is the only way we can sustain enough help to make this possible.

A special note to new pilots to MoM slope racing:
The contest organizers will make a special effort to help these pilots have a successful race. When you sign up, please add note next your name and we'll make sure you get extra assistance. We all needed a helping hand to get started. When in doubt, ask!

Signup Sheet:
Please update the following Google Doc with your details. Give your name, planned slope racer and its size. This will help organize and plan the races. If you need to change, no problem. We can adapt!

A quick note about Los Banos:

It's likely to be very HOT🥵. Plan accordingly. This means bring lots of fluid, coolers, chairs and sun shades if you have them. It's also best to bring food as the site is a bit remote.

Keep an eye on this space for updates. Let's race!

Once we have some basic guidelines I'd suggest we post this up on RC Groups and BAMF group, get some of our Sunset friends to join in. Maybe we can encourage the Midwest folks, Point of the Mountain, etc. There are a few hotbeds of slope pilots out there that should have enough folks to put on local events. I can see So Cal jumping back in too. Will discuss further in the other thread.

I had someone hit me up for a printed airframe - Just a heads up, the printed frames are only for folks that are signed up and planning to race. As it is we probably have enough print time to be a struggle to get them to pilots quick enough they can build them before the event.

I added a couple of columns to the spreadsheet to try and track where people are communicating so we can make sure to alert them. Also the Size Class Column is not working well. It only lets you select 60". I don't seem to be able to fix this..?

Rafael is on the printing job. The day was spent converting files and refining settings and several test prints. He has them butter smooth and using a better infill with a small 1mm radius where it hits the skins. Compared to the suggested fill it should result in a stronger model with no weight gain. (Rafael is really good at the magic of printing things.) If current test looks good we start printing. Sounds like we will have 6 printers grinding away as the ASA filament needs enclosed printers. It will be a challenge to get them all done by Friday.

Red, we may need to drop you down to just 2 copies to meet the deadline of shipping out Friday. Think that makes the total count 7 prints.
